This week is National Maths Week and P5 have been exploring a number of different problems to get them thinking about maths a little differently.
We have been learning different strategies for problem solving such as working in teams and drawing the problem. We have also been looking at how we sometimes need to take our time to ensure we get the right result.
There are more fun activities planned in class for the rest of this week. The class are also participating in a country wide Sumdog competition and are currently in the top 300 out of several thousands of schools.

This term Primary 3 have been reading the novel called The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark.
As we read the novel we have also been learning lots of things such as:
We have also been discussing the owl’s hopes and fears and we decided to write down our own hopes and fears on the leaves of the tree in our display. We hope that as the leaves fall from the tree our fears disappear and our hopes and wishes come true.

Primary 6 are learning about the features of Scotland’s landscape and how these were formed. The pupils have been showing off their artistic talents and have made 3D models of their chosen land features using a variety of media including Papier Mâché, Plasticine, polystyrene, Lego and Mindcraft. We even had an edible rice crispy model!!

Arthur’s Seat by Luke M “I made this with my Mum. We used marshmallows, butter and rice crispies, icing sugar, cocoa powder and green food colouring. (The class particularly enjoyed this model!) Yum Yum!!

Skara Brae by Ellie T “I put a lot of time and effort into this. I learned a lot of historic facts.”
Minecraft model of Bass Rock by Samuel

Steall Falls by Aiden L “Me and my Dad made a working waterfall using an old garden water feature pump!”

Loch Morlich by Erin “I’ve been to Loch Morlich with my family. That’s why I chose to make it my model.”

Arthur’s Seat by Luke B “It was really enjoyable making it. It smells nice too (because of the pine needles).”

Pupils from Primary 6 and Primary 7 participated in the Deans Gala Day football tournament. After hard fought games against Carmondean and Deans, the team made it through to the finals where they faced Carmondean again.
Carmondean were victorious and Meldrum took the runners up slot. I am sure you will agree it was a fantastic effort from the team. Well Done!
