Primary 5 Creativity afternoon!

Something very exciting happened in Primary 5 last Thursday afternoon. A sealed box was delivered to the classroom. We looked at it, passed it around and all had a shake. Then we had a good think about what might be inside. When we opened the box we discussed each object. There was an empty bottle, a plum, a wooden circle, a gold belt, two white balls, a dice, a shell, a small light bulb and a whirling drum!

The children discussed the first object that they noticed in the box.

”The first thing I noticed in the box was the plum because it’s a darker colour. It looks soft as if it has been in the box for a few days.”

”The first thing I noticed from the objects was that they are objects we might see or use around our school.”

”The first thing i noticed from the box was that you may find a bottle and a shell at the beach”

We thought about different ways that we could use each item in the box.

A group of children suggested we make a racetrack with the belt. They used the small and big white ball to race down the track.

Others suggested we use the empty bottle and some stones to make a musical instrument.

A few pupils made a slingshot with a few other items and the small ball.

Some of the children thought they could make some new jewellery with the belt and shell.

It was a very fun and creative afternoon! What would you do with the objects in the box?

P7 Creativity Challenge

Last week a strange box arrived in Primary 7. When we opened the box we discovered that there were a number of different items inside it. We set to work and using some of the contents and our imaginations we came up with a number of activities. We had some drama and music. We also had some prior learning in raft building from Dalguise being used.

What would you have done with the contents?

P4 Theatre Critic’s Review

Our Pupil to be proud of Luke wrote this excellent review of the panto last term. It shows many of his qualities which the class admire.

It was a very good show and I am sure everyone in the school enjoyed it. My favourite part was probably the Scarecrow because he’s funny and he acted it out very well. My favourite part was when the lion started dabbing. I like the fact how the actors don’t forget about the teachers as well. The evil voice was very tricky and they nailed it. I think they could have got more people because they had to keep going out and back to stage. I think they should have included the enchanted forest because that was a really good part of the story. I enjoyed it because it was well acted and a very good story and didn’t muck things up. They should of really included the hot air balloon but you can’t always get what you want in it because it is quite dangerous. I think Dorothy should have done a curtsy.

What else can you do with this musical instrument?

A high wire for a puppet.

Or a limbo line!

We made or own musical instruments too.

Which will roll fastest? The answer was a surprise!

How many ways can you wear a scarf?

Can we light a light bulb without wires? What happens if we tie balloons to them? What can we taste if we crumble biscuit into the water? Can we make a home for a shell? Or maybe its a bird house or a bird feeder?

So many questions to answer!

Primary 3 CREATIVITY CHALLENGE!

Something exciting happened in Primary 3 yesterday afternoon. A small brown box arrived in our classroom. We all thought long and hard about what could be inside. When we opened the box we found an empty bottle, a lime, a wooden circle, a white t-shirt, two white balls, a dice, a shell, a small light bulb and a shaker.

img_1427img_1429img_1443

We all talked about what we saw, what we thought and what we wondered about the items in the box. We had lots of different creative ideas. In the end the class came up with a fantastic imaginative story.

Lewis suggested the t-shirt looked like a plane so we all imagined we were on a flight. Some of the children then suggested the t-shirt, shell, lime and the sound of the shaker made them think of the beach and the ocean. The story then took a twist and the plane crashed onto a desert island! Here are some of the things we imagined the other items could be used for.

The dice would be used to make up an ‘Island jobs’ rota. Roll the dice to find out which job you’ll be doing.

The berries would be squashed and the juice would be used to write a ‘help me’ message on the t-shirt. They could also be eaten.

The bottle would be used to put the t-shirt with the ‘help me message’ in and floated out to sea. Hopefully someone would find us.

Primary One rose to the challenge!!!

A mystery box was delivered to the Primary One classroom this afternoon. We looked at it, we lifted it and we felt how heavy it was. We gave it a shake, a very careful shake, just in case. Oh this was exciting.

Abracadabra out came the contents of the box.img_3245

We sat in a circle and using our thinking skills we talked about the contents of the box.

“I see two spheres”,

” I think you would wear the glove on a cold day”

“I wonder if the switch rings a bell”

img_3247Just as we were looking at the things in the box, Roberta our class robot woke up. Her eyes shone blue and her arms started to wave back and forward. She is very nosy and likes to know what we are learning in Primary One.

She had a look at the contents of the box and ask the boys and girls what they were going to do with all the things.

We had lots of suggestions – we could make a house for Roberta using the box, we could make her a bed, we could make a picnic for her. ……

In the end the most popular suggestion was to make her a friend.

So we set about using all the bits and pieces to make a robot friend.

We wrapped different shapes in tin foil.   img_3249

img_3251

We added arms to our robot.

img_3258We put features on the robot using the grapefruit, the switch, the spheres, the box of raisins and the small circle. We had to be shape detectives while we were doing this as all the items were now silver!! Primary One know their shapes so this was easy for them.

Finally Roberta had a friend.

We had great fun and Roberta was a happy robot.

P2 Creativity Afternoon

P2 took part in a creativity afternoon today. A sealed box arrived in our classroom so we passed it around and gave it a shake.

090 092

Then we opened the box and took a look at what was inside.

096

We thought about different ways we could use the items in the box. Some suggested we drink the water and eat the raisins, others suggested we play games with the items.

Mrs Lang, Mrs McGuire, Stacey, Dylan and Charlie had the idea to create a character with some of the items so they set off to the Rainbow Room and came back with Mirren!

171 170 175 176

We played Kim’s Game with the other items. We tried not to peek while an item was being removed, then we had think hard about which item was missing. We even removed 2, 3 and 4 items at a time to make it more difficult!

113 111

It was a fun afternoon.

Creativity Challenge

Mrs Brown sent P2/3 a closed box with something inside.  We pass it round the circle and each person gives the box a shake. img_0331

Chloe, our dojo winner opens the box and shows us all our items.

img_0335

We touch, feel, shake and investigate our items.

img_0337

We each took a turn to share our creative ideas.

img_0341

img_0342

Emily’s idea got the most votes so we made a pinata.  We each added a triangle to make a star pinata.

img_0350

Now comes the fun part.  We hung it up and each of us bashed it.

img_0351

img_0354

Euan was our final destroyer of the pinata.  P2/3 had a fantastic afternoon sharing their ideas to all create a pinata.  Excellent teamwork P2/3.

Taiko Drumming

What a fantastic afternoon we had yesterday with a visit from the Taiko Drumming group. The whole gym hall vibrated with the sound of the drums. They were very loud indeed. Primary 6 will continue to work with the drumming group over the next few weeks. I look forward to hearing the results!
