It has been a very exciting week in Primary 4 and today we performed our Scottish Assembly to the pupils in Meldrum and our visitors.

Great Green

We had a fabulous time rehearsing for our assembly and performed with enthusiasm and confidence this morning. Well done to P4.

We sang our Scottish songs and danced the Virginia Reel brilliantly.

We are going to keep practising our addition using 2 or 3 digits.

It has been lovely to be outside at breaks and lunchtimes for most of this week although the icy conditions returned this morning!  This week, our P7 have continued with their online transition lessons with staff from Deans Community High School.  P4 took part in a live French lesson which everyone really enjoyed too.  P5 have a student teacher from Queen Margaret University, Miss Boyd, with them currently.  She will be leading some lessons next week supported by Mrs Orpin.

Outdoor Learning – please note the following changes to our outdoor learning days.   At the moment, we are a bit restricted by the weather but we do aim for outdoor learning to go ahead most of the time,

Lead Learners – each week, class teachers are choosing 2 pupils from the class who have been consistently showing our Meldrum values.  These children receive a certificate and are the class “lead learners” for the following week.  The lead learners are then tasked with choosing 2 or 3 things that they will be looking for in the classroom the following week.  This will be related to things which teachers are focusing on (e.g. remembering to use punctuation in writing or good recall of times tables)  Over the course of the week, teachers will remind the class of the focus areas that the lead learners have set.  Lead Learners will have a lanyard to wear inside the building to show everyone that they have the role each week and so far, are taking their responsibilities very seriously!

Food in school – we have noticed a large amount of food waste at lunch times.  We would ask that if your child is ordering a school lunch, that you go through the current menu with them and discuss what meal options they are choosing and check that these are items that your child will eat (you will find a copy of the menu by doing a search for West Lothian Council school meals within an internet search engine.)  School meals can look or taste slightly differently to a similar item at home and children can be reluctant to eat this.  It would be appreciated if you could take some time to chat with your child/children about school meals and help them select foods that they will eat and enjoy.  You can pre-order school meals via the Ipayimpact app, please contact Mrs Stephenson at the office if you need any help with your log in for this.

For children choosing a packed lunch, a reminder that schools are nut-free areas and children should not bring products containing nuts in their packed lunch (this includes spreads containing nuts such as peanut butter and chocolate spreads)  We also ask that items such as lollipops are not sent in for snack or lunches due to the choking hazards of these.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Another fun week in Primary 2!

We practised some football skills in PE playing a game in teams, we were learning to shoot and defend the goal. We have continued our learning about Scotland and we now know there are 8 cities in Scotland. We have been working hard to remember compass points; North, East, South and West. You can try to test us at home to see if we can remember them.

Great Green: “What went well…”

-We have had great fun making puppets and creating puppet shows this week. Using our knowledge of money to pay and give change.

-We have been working on the sound ‘ou’ and learning new words like out, house, mouse, cloud, shout and sound.

-We have a new favourite song from Fischy Music called “We’re the Land of Scots”.

Think Pink: “Even better if…”

-To continue to practise our letter formation, and using finger spaces, capital letters and full stops in our sentences.

-To continue to explore the 2 times table, remembering the “x” symbol means “groups of”, and is different from “+”.

Lead Learners:

Our lead learners next week are Ellie and Alice for showing kindness and responsibility. They look out for others and are always happy to help!

Primary 3 have been continuing their learning of Scotland and Robert Burns, and we found out some very exciting news…….It turns out that one of our pupils is his Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Granddaughter! Thank you Mia S for bringing in your family history.

During mathematics, we have discovered that we as a class are extremely good at estimating a length in cm before measuring it. We found out that the top of our pinkie is roughly 1cm and when our arms are out-stretched it is 1 meter from arm-to-arm.

Try to remember to always add the units after your measurement so others understand your answers.

Primary 7 have had another busy week continuing their learning.

Great Green (Things that went well)

• Notan Art images which are base on Japanese design focussing on harmony between positive (light shapes) and negative (dark shapes).
• Practising balance with a partner in P.E. (one of the two was raised above the floor!)

Think Pink (Things we want to get better at)

• Using direct speech in our writing.
• Saying Spanish numbers to 2o.

This week our Lead Learners are Jacob and Molly who have consistently demonstrated Respect all week. Well done!

They have decided that next week the value they will be looking for is Kindness.

The Victorians have arrived in Primary 5
Primary 5 are looking at the importance of the Victoria Era in our history;
looking at the life of children, the inventions, transport, the industrial revolution …… We are reading ‘The Mermaid in the Mill pond’ – this is a story about the life of children in a workhouse at this time.
