Meldrum Messages – Friday 9th January 2026

Happy New Year to all of our Meldrum families.  I hope that 2026 brings good health and happiness to you all.  It has been lovely to welcome all of our children and staff back to school this week.  The children have been given Scots poems to practise for the annual poetry competition so please support and encourage them at home to learn their chosen poem.

Severe Weather Arrangements

The cold weather has certainly freshened things up this week!  A reminder that in the event of heavy snow or icy conditions, FMA staff (janitors) will clear or salt one initial footpath to allow access to the school safely.  This is because FMA staff have a number of schools to open up and attend to before the start of the school day.  For Meldrum PS, this is the footpath from the bottom gate up towards the front of the school building.  The gate into the back gate will still be open however the playground and path in this area will not be cleared/gritted.   The other footpaths will be worked on by the FMA staff as soon as possible during daylight hours, following completion of their existing essential duties.  This week, the children have come straight into the building on arrival.  A reminder that our morning arrangements are:  any children arriving before 8.35am should come into the building; at 8.35am staff will be in the playground to supervise arrivals.  If there are no staff in the playground at this time, this is due to the weather and children should all come into the building via the breakfast club door where they will be supervised until the start of the school day.

Appointments

Where possible, medical appointments should be arranged for after school however we do know that on some occasions, you may need to make an appointment for your child during school hours.  Unless unwell, children should attend school before and after appointments and not remain at home for the full day.  Children are able to be collected and dropped off at the office, please contact Mrs Stephenson to make these arrangements.

Upcoming dates

Primary 5 are due to go to Deans Community High School for the rescheduled handball festival on Thursday 22nd January.  This will be weather permitting. Primary 4 will perform their class assembly for parents/carers on Friday 23rd January at 9.30am.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!  Lynne Egan.
