Our Learning – Week Ending 5th January 2017

Happy New Year!  Welcome back to a new term, filled with exciting learning opportunities.  Jack Frost has been out and about dancing down our street and turning our garden all white.  We weren’t really sure how frost was made so we decided to investigate using our magnifing lens.  We saw “fingers of frost” on the grass, the toys and the garden furniture.  Our Mud Kitchen pots and pans were filled with ice which was very cold, wet, hard, and slippery.

We also used our cutting skills to create Snowflakes and have added them to our window displays

Our Winter Igloo is starting to take shape and we have been working hard to prepare the “bricks” and build 3 layers of wall.  We still need lots more empty clean milk cartons to add more walls and then a roof.

Through our stories and songs this week we identified 2 new and unknown words.  We will be continuing to learn what Hibernation is and what a Snowdrop is next week.

Please ask your child to give you a rendition of our new winter songs we have been learning this week; Jack Frost and Put Your Coat On!

Santa left us new books under our Christmas Tree and we will be adding them to our Lending Library for it reopening on Monday.  The Lending Library will reopen on Monday with the Green Group, Tuesday for the Yellow Group, Wednesday for the Red Group and Thursday for the Blue Group.

Next Week we will be continuing to increase or knowledge and use of Winter vocabulary as well as investigate the properties of ice and how it changes back into water.
