Enjoy our rhyme of the week displayed in the cloakrooms of both nurseries. Take a photo of it on your phone and build up a collection of rhymes to learn with your child, supporting them to develop the skills that will help them to become confident readers.

This week our rhyme is

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall,

All the king’s horses and all the king’s men,

Couldn’t put Humpty together again.

This week in IEYC we have been talking about pets.  Some children have been sharing what pets they have at home and have contributed to making a bar graph to allow us to see what is the most popular pet.

There has been lots of board games being played and the children have been learning to take turns and follow the rules of the game.

We have continued to over a variety of sensory experiences which is very popular.  We have been discussing smells and textures, learning lots of new describing words.

We have continued to enjoy going for walks to the local woodland where the children are learning to explore the natural environments.  We plan to take the bus to the local pet shop to buy our very own pet (fish).

Ladywell Nursery School

This week in Ladywell nursery the children have been developing their mathematical skills through making playdough. They helped to count out how many jars of ingredients they needed and were learning about halves when talking about adding half a jar of oil.  They took turns to place the ingredients inside the bowl and stir the playdough.  They then added herbs to the playdough that they picked from the nursery garden.  Afterwards they had lots of fun making their own creations and used their senses to describe what the playdough smelt like.

The children have had fun in our sensory room where they enjoyed exploring rice.  They appeared to like the sound that the rice made and how it felt in their hands.

Following on from when the children were investigating minibeasts in the garden the children have been busy outside digging for worms to make a wormery.  We spoke about how to care for living creatures and what you need to do to look after them.

Box Clever at IEYC and LNS

We are continuing to use the Box Clever approach to support the development of children’s knowledge and use of vocabulary. We are using topics which have come from the children and are already being explored in the floor books.

Each box clever focus lasts for a month, the first week are naming words (fish, seaweed), the second describing words (orange, slimy) and the third week action words (swimming)and during the fourth week the words are put together to create meaningful sentences(the orange fish is swimming in the slimy seaweed)

Ladywell Nursery School

This week in Ladywell nursery the children have been learning lots of skills in all areas of nursery.

• They have been developing their numeracy skills through match making games on the promethean board.  Pattern making through varied resources and numeracy skills through counting.
• Using nails and hammers to develop their fine motor skills and develop their hand and eye co-ordination.
• Collecting leaves  and natural resources  from the garden to sort by colour and their own criteria.
• They have been developing their mark making skills though mark making with salt using different tools.
• They have also been using their imagination to design their own creations using clay.
• The water butt and guttering has been popular with the children where they have enjoyed pouring water down the guttering and noticing that there is a puddle of water on the ground that gets bigger the more water you pour down.

Ladywell Nursery Class

A very warm welcome to all of our returning and new children.  We also welcome some new staff members to our team.  We are all working hard to learn the nursery rules and routines.
