P5 – Travelling Gallery Visit

P5 went to the library today and were lucky enough to visit the Art Bus which was parked outside too! We saw an exhibition called Waste Management that was all about recycled art. Some children sat on chairs made from wheelie bins and others admired a wooden sculpture carved from an old ornament. We hope to have as much success making eco-friendly crafts for our open afternoon.

P5 – Technology

P5 have been making 3D model toucans from junk. They have also been set the challenge of creating a different Rainforest animal at home from recycled products. We have had a sneak preview of Jay McPhee and Zoe’s crocodiles and we cannot wait to see all the finished results!

P5 – Gymnastics

P5 enjoyed taking part in the gymnastics taster session. They practised rolling, balancing and jumping and worked on creating more controlled finishes. Some children had so much fun that they are considering joining the gymnastics club at Armadale Academy.

Primary 5 and 6

Calling all primary 5 and 6 pupils Miss Holley and Miss Weston need your help. After the school holidays we will be starting some exciting craft projects linked to our rainforest topic. To make this project a success we need you to bring in some items from home. We need toilet roll tubes, fruit juice cartons, cereal boxes and newspaper.
You will be rewarded with golden tickets if you manage to bring any of these items in so get collecting over the holidays! 🙂

P5 – Haikus

P5 have been learning how to write Haiku poems. We learned about syllables before writing our Haiku poems. Each Haiku was based on a rainforest plant or animal and we used our research notes to ensure the information was accurate. Our success criteria was to write a poem with 3 lines with 5 syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second and 5 syllables in the third. Watch this space for some excellent examples!

P5 – Learning in Science

P5 have been using the mnemonic MRS. GREN to remember the seven life processes. We have learned that something is only alive if it does ALL seven processes. The letters in her name stand for each of the life processes – movement, reproduction, sensitivity, growth, respiration, excretion and nutrition. We worked collaboratively to create posters explaining each of the life processes.

P5 – Personal Achievements

Rebecca Ross got a bronze cerftificate at Rookie Lifeguards. She attends lessons at Armadale swimming pool every Monday evening where she learns how to save people. Rebecca is now working towards achieving her silver award. Well done Rebecca!

Cameron Carse got a trophy for competing in a football tournament at Polbeth.  He plays for Armadale sharks and meets twice a week to practise in preparation for games on a Saturday.  He usually plays left wing.  Keep up the hard work, Cameron!

P5 – Learning in Maths

In maths this week we have been learning about line symmetry. We have investigated symmetry in nature and did detailed line drawings of some insects found in the rainforest. We also printed symmetrical butterflies, trying to imitate the patterns of common rainforest butterflies.

P5 – Visit to the Library

P5 enjoyed their visit to the library on Thursday. Some of the children worked with the librarian to complete a wordsearch while the rest of the class did some research in the computer suite. Everyone got the opportunity to look at the wide range of childrens books available and many people borrowed books to take home and enjoy with their families.

We will be visiting the library again on the following Thursdays:

  • 3rd November
  • 17th November
  • 1st December

Please remember to bring your library cards on these dates!

P5 – Learning about the Rainforest

P5 have enjoyed learning about the rainforest. We have researched plants and animals living in the four different layers and have created a display in our classroom of a rainforest using a range of media. We have also made PowerPoint posters and written senses poems to describe the conditions of each strata.
