National 5 Mock Exams

Well that’s the mock exams over for the current S4!

We are quite pleased with the obvious amount of revision and effort our candidates put into their exams this session, and by and large it paid off.

Candidates have been informed (or are in the process of being informed) of their provisional marks. It has to be said that the marks this year are generally of a very high standard.

If you didn’t quite get the result you were hoping for please don’t panic! We will now fully analyse the results together with your marked paper and will use this information to produce individualized  study plans for you, you should start to receive these just after the Christmas break. We will also work very closely with individual pupils and small groups to target areas for development.

In the meantime please have a very enjoyable and well earned holiday, see you all in 2017!

Arkwright Success

Well done to Andy Smith and Alasdair Russell who have been awarded Arkwright Scholarships.

The Arkwright Scholarships Trust is a registered charity that administers the most prestigious scholarship scheme of its type in the UK.

They identify, inspire and nurture future leaders in Engineering and technical Design. They do this by awarding Arkwright Engineering Scholarships, through a rigorous selection process, to high-calibre students in S4.

Their Engineering Scholarships support students through their Highers and encourage students to pursue Engineering or technical Design at university or through a higher-level apprenticeship and to take up careers in the field.

Technical Education at Dunblane High

Welcome to the Technical Education blog for Dunblane High School.

We aim to give pupils studying in this subject area a broad and interesting educational experience which includes many useful life skills for pupils who do not remain with us for certificated courses.

In S1 to S3 Broad General Education: the following subjects are studied on a 12 week rotation:

Engineering Science, analogue electronics design, digital electronics, programmable control and structural design. Much of the course content is taught using computer simulation with pupils working in pairs or in teams of four.

Graphic Communication,  formal technical graphics (orthographic drawing) using drawing boards, perspective sketching, shading and colouring theory & techniques, DTP, autoCAD design and 3D modelling,

Practical Craft, (S1 and S2 only),pupils learn to use a variety of hand and power tools and processes in two small woodwork and plastics projects.

In the senior phase we currently offer Engineering Science to Higher, (with the new Advanced Higher due to be available from session 16/17), and Graphic Communication to Advanced Higher.

The department also promotes the Arkwright Scholarship and we have been very successful in guiding pupils through this prestigious award. http://www.arkwright.org.uk/
