Why study Practical Woodworking?

Practical woodworking is available at National 4 and National 5, it is also available at National 3 as Practical Craft Skills.

So why take this subject?

The first thing to note is that it is not an “easy option”, candidates have to be able to read production drawings, interpret these to ensure that they can produce accurate cutting lists, be able to measure and mark timber for cutting to an accuracy of +/- 1mm.

Candidates will also learn about sustainability, different types of wood and manufactured boards, they will learn how to use and maintain a range of power and hand tools taking appropriate steps to ensure that they comply with relevant Health and Safety regulations.

Practical Woodworking is a suitable course of study for anyone considering a craft apprenticeship, undertaking a vocational course at college, or just as a life skill.
