Hello everyone!

Here is a makaton signed story of Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell.

Here is a painting craft – Let’s make a Lion!

I thought you might enjoy the Singing Hands video of:                                    “We’re going to the zoo”: https://youtu.be/6i6Ti7p_3AM

Bubbles and rainbows

Popped Bubble Art

This is always a big hit with kids when I do it with them.  Hope you all enjoy!  Simply colour bubble mix with food colouring and blow bubbles onto paper – as the bubbles land and pop, they create beautiful works of art. It goes without saying that this project is best done outdoors.

Materials

  • Bubble Mix
  • Bubble Wands
  • Food Colouring
  • Paper

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 tablespoon of bubble mix into a small, shallow bowl.
  2. Add a few drops of food colouring to the bubble mix and stir well
  3. Place your bubble wand in the coloured bubble mix, remove and blow bubbles towards your paper.
  4. As the bubbles hit the paper and pop, they will leave interesting patterns. Repeat with other colours.

Tips

  1. Caution: Food colouring will stain surfaces and clothing. Be sure to protect both!
  2. This activity can be frustrating on a windy day – as the wind makes it hard to get the bubbles to hit the target paper!

Strike up the band – idea from Pamis

Hi all,

Hope you’ve been enjoying the sunshine!  Just a wee idea from Pamis’s website.  Pamis is a Scottish organisation which supports people with profound and multiple learning difficulties and their families.  Click on the link above for access to lots more ideas.  Hope this finds you all well, remember to post some photos of what you’ve all been up to, it’s lovely to see.

Tips for home-made music makers and instruments –

Raid the kitchen cupboards, pots, pans, cake tins can be hit or swirled inside with spoons (metal or wooden), whisks, other cutlery and utensils to make a variety of sounds . Pots, pans, cake tins with pasta, oats, lentils etc swirled round inside. Grill/cooling racks and cheese graters with spoons swished up and down, fast and slow.

Containers e.g Pringles, hot chocolate, gravy granules, empty water bottles and milk cartons can all become ‘shakers’ filling them with a variety and quantity of materials. To get different sounds you can use gravel, stones, buttons as well as store cupboard ingredients but ensure tops are secured so children aren’t tempted to eat any escaping contents.

I might use some of these ideas on Thursday when we clap for our carers!

Happy Easter

Just a short message to wish you all a happy and healthy Easter.

We are all missing the pupils in Room 7 and hope that you and your families are managing to survive without the routine and friendly faces that are so important to all of us.  Looking forward to seeing you all soon, we will be in touch after the holidays.

Take care,

Morna, Emma, Kaitlyn, Leanne and Louise xxx

This is a fantastic Occupational Therapy programme which you can use (easily adapted slightly for home).  If possible allocate a day for ball skills, another to balance, another to body awareness, and a forth to clever hands,  this spreads the tasks as well.  You will then be working on on Motor skills in some way 4 days in 7!  Email your photos to: gw07mckenziemorna@glow.sch.uk                      gw14stevensonemma1@glow.sch.uk
