Today P5/6 visited the Glasgow Science Centre to learn more about the River Clyde, its tributaries and fish. Salmon are being gradually introduced into the River Avon and schools along this River have been asked to look after and hatch brown trout eggs, before releasing them into the wild. (Brown trout eggs behave just like salmon eggs and much easier to care for) St Elizabeth`s was chosen and tomorrow a Scientist will visit the school with all the equipment needed to care for their new class visitors. Over the next six weeks P5/6 will make sure the hatchery is cold, healthy and oxygenated whilst recording data to monitor how the eggs are developing. Look out for all Progress Reports.
