What’s Happening? Monday 3rd to Friday 7th February
January is over and we are quickly moving into February, the days seem to passing in the blink of an eye.
We have lots going on across the whole school as well as in individual classes.
February is filling up and we are sure we have lots of activities still to be added.

What’s Happening? Monday 13th – Friday 17th January 2020
This week is a busy week for everyone at Kirkton. We are looking forward to registering who are due to start school in August 2020.
If your child’s 5th birthday falls on or before 29th February 2021, and you live within our catchment area, you should enrol your child for our P1 intake.
Please bring your child’s full birth certificate and two pieces of recent official documentation both containing parent’s permanent home address to clarify proof of residency (e.g. utility bill, council tax statement, housing rent statement, child benefit documentation).

Right of the Month
UNCRC Right of the Month – January 2020
Article 30
I have a right to speak my own language and to follow my family’s way of life.
Article 30 of the UNCRC makes it clear that children and young people who belong to a minority group have the right to share their culture, language and religion with other people in that group.
While most of what Article 30 says is implied by other Articles of the UNCRC, it exists to makes clear that the rights of minority children and young people should not be overlooked by people who think about how to put the Convention into practice. It applies to everyone in Scotland and not just its citizens— so refugees in the process of seeking asylum are covered by it in the same way as everybody else.
What Article 30 doesn’t say
Article 30 doesn’t say that a child or young person’s culture or religion can be used to override their rights as given in the UNCRC. In particular, children and young have the right to be protected from practices that are likely to cause them harm, regardless of whether they are part of their culture.
Infant Enrolment for August 2020
Infant enrolment details for children due to start Primary 1 in August 2020 takes place during Week Beginning 13th January, here are the drop in sessions for Kirkton Primary School.
If your child is due to start school in August 2020, you require to enrol them in your catchment school.
You must bring the following documents to register your child:
- child’s full birth certificate
- 2 official documents containing the parent’s permanent home address (e.g. utility bill, council tax statement, housing rent card, child benefit documentation).
Please note that it must be a parent who registers their child for school.
