Christmas countdown is on!

Tis the week of the Christmas shows, so I hope you are all ready to give a week of truly festive performances!

Room 13 has been struck down with the sickness bug for the last two weeks, so it was lovely to have (almost) everyone back in class on Friday… it’s been far too quiet without all my wonderful pupils!

I do realise that this will affect where everyone is at with their reading book.Β  Therefore, I ask, if you have not already, please read to the end of Chapter 8 by Friday.Β  If you have already completed this, then there is no reading homework for this week.Β  Hopefully this will give everyone a chance to catch up!

I also realise that this is an incredibly busy time for everyone, therefore I have listed some suggested activities for homework and it is up to you which ones you complete.

Maths – Your ability to recall your times tables has improved immensely since August.Β  There’s now a good number of you who can beat me in class! But can you beat the people at home?Β  Try a game of ‘Beat the Family’ and see who comes out on top!

Art – My Christmas tree is still looking a little bare πŸ™ I would love to see if you can find some materials at home (possibly ones that you would be recycling anyway) and make me a Christmas decoration for the tree!

HWB – At this time of year it is very easy to forget that it can be a very stressful time for some people (especially your parents!).Β  I have a class of such kind and thoughtful young people and I would love for other people to recognise this too.Β  Your mission is to carry out some random acts of kindness and then share them with me in class.Β  This might be helping with chores, helping people in school, donating something to those in need over Christmas (I’m sure you can think of loads more!).

Again this is your choice to complete these… but hopefully there will be some amazing things to talk about at the end of the week!

Please remember your Christmas outfits for the shows this week.Β  If you could bring them in a bag with your name on it, that will reduce the chance of things getting lost!

Permission forms for our trip on the 18th December must also be returned this week, if they have not been already.

I can’t wait for everyone to see you perform on stage!

Let’s have a great week!

Miss M πŸ™‚

Happy December!! πŸŽ„β˜ƒοΈπŸŽ

Happy Monday (and December) Room 13!

We are now officially on the run down to Christmas and I hope you are as excited as I am!

Same homework tasks to be completed this week.

Our final rehearsals are next Monday! Please make sure you have your song lyrics memorised, so we can start adding some dance steps this week.

Could you also start looking out things that you might want to wear for these performances.Β  This could be a Christmas jumper / top, earrings, Santa hat, hairband, hair bobble or some tinsel.

For ‘Street Child’ please read to the end of Chapter 8.Β  Please make sure you are keeping up with the class novel, as we will have a reading assessment during class next week.Β  The questions will be based on Chapters 1 – 8, therefore it is extremely important that you have read all of these chapters.

Christmas decorations will be going up this week, so please come to class with some festive spirit and amazing singing voices at the ready!

Let’s have a great week everyone πŸ™‚

Happy Monday Room 13!

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend.Β  It was great to see so many of you helping out at the Christmas Fayre on Saturday!

With December quickly approaching and Christmas show practice taking up most of our time, we have decided to keep homework to a minimum for the next few weeks (I’m sure you will be happy to hear!)

There will be no written homework.Β  Instead I ask you, kindly, to continue practicing your lyrics for the Christmas show.

I will give out reading homework each week, however there will be no follow up task with this.Β  We will simply discuss the chapters read in class at the end of the week.

I encourage you to carry out about 10-15 minutes on Sumdog or Study Ladder, to consolidate the concepts you have been learning in maths.Β  Although this is personal choice to carry out these tasks, I cannot stress the importance of keeping up with practicing your maths outside of school!

Lots of show practice this week so let’s get ourselves into the festive spirit!!!

Homework week beginning 11th Nov

Happy Monday Room 13!

Hope you have all had a lovely weekend and looking forward to a week that isn’t jam packed with STEM preparations!!

Three homework tasks this week:

– Spelling words will be copied into homework jotters in class.

– Please write each word out three times (neatest handwriting)

*I have noticed that some people are using in excess of 4 or 5 pages for their spelling tasks.Β  Please try to keep your homework concise so we aren’t wasting paper!

I would like you to complete at least 15 minutes of Sumdog.Β  However, I will award personal points to the three pupil’s who complete the most amount of time by Friday morning.

I am happy for you to choose the tasks / activities you complete.Β  I have, however, left some suggestions for each group below in case you would like to work on the same topics we are working on in class:

Triangles – Money or Time

Squares – Division

Circles – Multiplication

Rectangles – Addition or Place Value

All homework is to be handed in by Friday morning.Β  For anyone who cannot log into Sumdog, please complete some multiplication practice with a parent / guardian and have them write a comment in your homework jotter to confirm this has been done.

Finally I would like each of you to create an A4Β  poster for one Victorian invention.Β  These will be handed out in class.Β  We will put all of these together on Friday to create our very own Victorian inventions timeline outside the classroom.Β  Your poster should include three things:

– The year your invention was created should be at the top of your A4 sheet, nice and big, so it stands out.

– It needs to include some BRIEF information about your invention.Β  Remember not to pack it full of information.Β  Short bursts of information dotted around your poster makes it much more appealing to the reader.

– A picture of your invention.Β  This can be hand drawn or printed off and stuck on.

I would love this to be really bright and colourful!Β  If you need to borrow resources from the class please feel free to ask me πŸ™‚

I have attached some photos of some examples to remind you what I am looking for!

We are still waiting to get a 100% homework record in class… let’s try and achieve that this week!!!

Let’s have a great week everyone!

Room 13 thank you for all of your wonderful suggestions for our Christmas Hamper! πŸŽ…πŸΌ

I have written up some of your suggestions and you’ll see the photo at the top of this blog. Β You can use this to help inspire you for what you would like to bring in 🍭

Remember there is already a chocolate and movie night hamper, so we want our to specifically contain SWEETIES only 😍☺️

Anything you can bring in will be great and we can start putting our hamper together as soon as these start coming to class! πŸ’•

Have a great weekend everyone, you’ve worked super hard this week!

WELL DONE ROOM 13!

Room 13… what can I say?!

What a day we had today at Stonelaw with our FunSTEM projects finally drawing to a close.

This has been two solid months of hard work and I honestly could not be more proud of every single person in my class.Β  Your confidence shone through today in your presentations and your final models and ideas posters were simply amazing!

A lot of hard work, time, dedication and team work put in to these projects and you should be immensely proud of yourself, your team and your class, with what you were able to present today.

Burnside is lucky to have such amazing P6 and P7 pupils representing them at these events.

Well done again… get some well deserved rest tonight and I will see you tomorrow!

From a very very proud,

Miss McKinnon πŸ™‚

Homework due 1st November

Happy Monday Room 13!

With STEM projects needing to be finished this week, there is only two pieces of homework for this week.

All groups please read to the end of your book and write a short review.Β  This should be about 7 – 8 sentences.Β  You are welcome to summarise the key events in the story and then add your opinion at the end, or you can simply write a review by itself.Β  Please focus on using interesting vocabulary to put across your opinion of the book.

Spelling words will be copied into your homework jotter during class.

Only one task for spelling this week:Β  Please write out a sentence for each spelling word.Β  Make sure these are not simple sentences (I will give examples of what I am looking for in class).Β  Please also underline each spelling word, so I know you have used all of them.

Busy week ahead with Halloween and final preparations for STEM.

Let’s have a great week.

Miss M πŸ™‚

Presentation prep questions

STEM (Due Friday)

STEM (Due Monday)

The question and answer sheets will be given back to you on Friday afternoon.Β  Take these home and try to start memorising your answers.Β  We will be practising our presentations and Q’n’A sessions next week.

Suns – Please read to the end of page 34

Planets – Please read to the end of page 31

Stars – Please read to the end of page 33

Please also have a parent of guardian write a comment in your homework jotter to confirm this has been completed.

Write each word out three times (neatest handwriting).

Rainbow OR Pyramid writing for each word too.

Lovely to see you all back in class today πŸ™‚
