Music Afternoon

On Wednesday we had a music afternoon organised by the Primary 6 pupils. P5/6 played first. They played ‘The best day of my life’ by American authors on the ukulele.

We then heard from the piano and fiddle students. As they showcased what they had learned in their lessons.

Finally our class (P6/7) played ‘Island’ by Peat and diesel. We had lots of instruments like the ukuleles, drums, fiddles, accordion, piano, glockenspiel , xylophone and base guitar.

Climate Smarter

Yesterday we were a step closer to competing in our school Climate Smarter competition.

This session the children have been learning all about renewable energies and how the can use them to reduce our carbon footprint. They have been carrying out experiments and tasks throughout their learning. Now they are having to apply all their learning to their Big Task.

They have been challenged to:

  • design and build an Eco School model, using a set criteria,
  • create a display which details their learning,
  • give a short presentation to explain the reasons for their choices.

Yesterday we invited the classes throughout the school to the class to present our work. This gave us an opportunity to prepare for our school competition on Tuesday, when we will be presenting in front of a panel of judges. The winner of our competition will be representing our class at the Shetland competition in May. Good Luck boys and girls!

RED NOSE DAY

15/03/24

Today we had Red Nose Day and so far we’ve sent donations and taken a photo.

This is us.  Red Nose Day is about a fundraiser that raises life changing funds to help end the cycle of poverty and ensure children are safe, healthy, educated and empowered across the world and raised money for places around the world.

The whole school has voted to wear pajamas for Red Nose Day. The options were, wear red, fancy dress and pajamas for the day.

PE peg game

This week we were at PE we played this game called the peg game. You had to clip two pegs to your T shirt. The aim of the game was to steal a peg from someone’s T shirt.

To start with every one was it and everyone  had two pegs. some people would team up and some would not and if you teamed up you would not go for the people on your teams peg when you steal the pegs you put them on you t shirt.

I would definitely play this game again it was really fun. Everyone was going for Miss Paterson it was really funny.

Our next steps are work in better teams so you can get the most pegs.

Climate Smarter Project

This term the children have been taking part in a STEM topic all about being Climate Smarter. They have  been learning about renewable energies through practical activities. This topic is being taught across several schools in Shetland and as part of the topic there is a learning event to be held at the Lerwick museum in May.

As part of the topic the children have to work in groups to design and plan an Eco school, which incorporates renewable energy and showcases their learning.

We are able to take one group to the learning event in May where a competition is to be held between the schools to see which school has come up with the best design.

We are therefore going to be holding an in school event, at the end of March, for the children to present their schools to a panel of judges so that we can select the team going to represent the class in Lerwick.

The children have selected their groups and are excited to be getting started on their models and presentations. I know that some of the children are eager to get together outside of school to add to their projects. They are more than welcome to do this but please be reassured that this is not compulsory and we have left enough time in class to work on these projects.

We wish all the children the best in the competition, happy building!!

Sumdog Competition

This week we did a sumdog competition.  We worked very hard on it. We did it for our homework. It was very exciting and tempting. They were 1000 questions to answer and some of us in the top 10. Some just tried our best. The competition started on Friday and ended Thursday. In the end we won it and were very happy.

Following on from our success in the Sumdog competition last week we received certificates from Sumdog. One for daily winner for coming first last Tuesday and another for being the overall winner of the competition. Well done to all the class!

In addition to our class success we had 4 students who received individual certificates for making it into the top 10 for best scores.  Well done Lauryn, Sam, Cleo and Harry!
