Accelerated Reader

As part of our homework the children need to carry out reading for 10 to 15 minutes each night, using their Accelerated Reader.

When the children are selecting their books it is important that they are picking a book at the correct level to provide the correct challenge, especially when carrying out their quiz after they finish reading their book.

In the school and class library this is clear for the children as most of our books are colour coded. However this is trickier when picking a book from home or choosing a book that has not been colour coded.

By accessing AR Finder you can look up the title of a book to see if it is part of the Accelerated Reading programme and find out what level it is.

Click on the above link and type in the title of your book.

Look at the ATOS book level and this will tell you what level the book is.

After the October holidays you will find a note of what level you child is reading at in their homework diaries.

Science

This week we were learning about density of materials.

We did an experiment to see which liquids had a bigger mass.

We got a beaker and put water in it. We guessed  what was going to happen to everything that we put in it. Then we put cooking oil in it. To see if it floated. Then we put treacle. Fairy liquid in it. Baby lotion. Then  we put a dice and a marble and some Lego brick.

We had to discuss if our predictions came true.
