We wanted to see how far apart each planet was.
We had to show the distance each planet was from the sun. The distances were scaled down.
Instead of always going back to the sun we decided to calculate how many cm we had to add from one planet to the next.
This was tricky calculations, that we worked on together.
Then we had to decide on the best tool for measuring. We had a ruler, a metre stick and a trundle wheel.
Once we measured each distance out it was clear to see how close some planets were and how far apart others were.
Eve: “I liked it because we got to learn how far from the sun each planet was.”
Theo:” I liked when we were measuring how far apart each planet was.”
Logan:” We had to calculate the distance we had to measure.”
We discovered that using smaller numbers to scale was easier than using big numbers. It helped us visualise the distances between the planets.
