Healthy Snack:
We are delighted to begin trialling fruit and vegetable snack for P1-3 learners on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. What a postive start it has been with lots of happy P1-3s eating their much loved favourites, or trying new, fruit and vegetables!
We are extremely grateful to Sandwick Spar and the school’s Parent Carers Council who have supported us in this initiative. P1-3 visited the Spar shop on Tuesday to say thank you to all involved.
We have given all our primary pupils a protected snack eating time, before outdoor play, to increase opportunity to socialise with peers, engage in conversation at the table and to provide a positive, calm environment to try fruit and vegetables (P1-3) and/or eat own snack from home. We believe this is a valuable use of time and will offer benefits such as improved focus and wellbeing as well as helping to reduce litter in the playground and wider school grounds. This also ensures that pupils have their full break time available for outdoor play and physical activity, which we value highly at Sandwick. We hope to be able to roll out the fruit and vegetable snack to older learners in the future
Football – Shetland Primary League – WINNERS!:
Our south mainland team have won the Schools Football League! The top teams from the 2 winter leagues met at Scalloway for the final fixture yesterday. They played Aith, Baltasound, Tingwall and Sound showing grit, determination, and great team spirit. They finally beat Sound in the final match to bring the trophy home for the first time. A huge well done to all involved and parents for their support.

Learner Led – Term 1
Our learner led event is an opportunity for our children to lead in their learning and to share with parents/carers the spaces, learning and teaching and to meet the staff at school. Primary 7 7 were fantastic at organising fundraising events and took a leadership role in this event.
