Virtually Safe, Virtually Sound

On Wednesday 16th September, we welcomed a range of visitors to the school to deliver workshops focusing on various aspects of Health and Wellbeing that are particularly relevant to current social issues, including online safety, AI, anti-bullying, hate crime, and smoking and vaping.

Our pupils engaged positively throughout the day and shared the following reflections:

  • “Words can make a massive difference to someone’s life.”
  • “It shows how a fun can have consequences.”
  • “We purposely got to break the rules then learn the consequences.  Definitely never doing that in real life!”
  • “I learnt that the police can get access to everything.”
  • “Vaping can affect your whole body, not just your lungs.”
  • “I like a good debate about the affects of AI.”
  • “I didn’t know some of these things were crimes.  I am going to be kinder to people.”
  • “Make it more interactive and hands on.”

Thank you to Miss Irvine and all the organisers for a worthwhile event.

Business Management

This term our S4 Business Management class have been learning about the operations function of business.  They were lucky enough to be joined by Anne Marie Anderson from Tetley & Anderson; Anne Marie shared with the class real examples of the operational processes in her business.  This included information on stock management, methods of production and factors to be considered when choosing a supplier.  Anne Marie shared valuable insight on the reality of running a business and the challenges this can present.

Pupils said:

“What she shared with us will be very useful during our exam times when we need examples and to remember things through her examples.”

“I think it was really good having her come in and talk to us as it was very useful and it will help me to remember the things we spoke about better since she told us plenty stories and things that she did to overcome her problems that she faced.  Thank you very much for coming in!!!”
