Snow White Pantomime

Primary 6 and 7 have been rehearsing for the upcoming Snow White Pantomime.  The two classes have worked so well together, learning their lines and songs.  They have also been very interested in the process of putting on a show and many of their ideas have been incorporated into the performance.  Below are a few photos of our rehearsal yesterday.

Last week, because all the costumes were ready, we had a photo shoot.  The pupils really embraced the challenge of acting their character in the photos.  The photos are displayed in the glass cabinet near the office and have proved a great talking point among staff, parents and pupils.

When you come to the Christmas shows, please take the time to have a look.  They are absolutely super.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday for our performances.

India Topic Term 1 2024 25

Our topic this term has been India.

We’ve been learning about:

  • The geography of India
  • Key facts about India
  • Comparing India to Scotland and Shetland
  • The contrast between rich and poor in India
  • Fair Trade and how it helps people make a living.

One of our activities was to “work” for 20 minutes making paper bags to sell to shopkeepers for their spices.  Making 10 bags earned 1 rupee.  It was sticky, messy and very hard work!

Once we had done the calculations, most groups managed to keep their family alive for one day… but only just.   (See pictures below.)

Active Schools Transition Activity Day Tuesday 19 March 2024

Yesterday, P7s from Scalloway, Hamnavoe, Whiteness, Tingwall and Nesting schools all came together in the Scalloway Games Hall to get to know each other a little before they move to the AHS.

Active Schools organised 4 activities which everyone got to try.

  • Basketball
  • Rugby
  • Boccia
  • Dodgeball

Our class had a great time and all managed to say hi to some new people.

Thank you to Active Schools for organising the day.

STEM Challenge – Build a Highland Blackhouse

Primary 7 have had a busy two weeks building blackhouses from balsa wood.

Many skills have been worked on including measuring, building, listening, cooperating and evaluating.  It’s been a very worthwhile task to fit in with our topic of “The Highland Clearances.”  The class evaluation reports are worth reading and will be on show (along with the Blackhouses) on our Learning Walk on March 14.

We look forward to seeing you there!
