I can’t believe that we are at that time of year again… P7 getting their much loved Leavers’ Hoodies. They look great.
On Thursday 20 March, Scalloway P7 met up with P7 pupils from Nesting, Hamnavoe, Whiteness and Tingwall schools for the first transition event of 24/25. It is a lovely chance to meet peers who will also be in S1.
The event was organised by Active Schools. Pupils had a chance to play badminton, rugby, boccia and basketball. All of our P7s had a super morning, getting to meet and play with others.
This week, P7 have been researching how Britain prepared for War in 1939. If families had a garden, they could build an Anderson Shelter to protect themselves from Nazi Bombs. They were notoriously damp and unpleasant.
As a STEM Challenge, our groups got to build an Anderson shelter using card, glue and sellotape. They had to think about the structure and how to make it strong to withstand enemy bombs. They also had to make it waterproof so the little cotton wool person didn’t get wet.
It was a great afternoon and all the groups worked well together. This was another part of the challenge.
Mrs Tait had the pleasure of bombing and pouring water on them.

The Bombing and rain!
Primary 6 and 7 have been rehearsing for the upcoming Snow White Pantomime. The two classes have worked so well together, learning their lines and songs. They have also been very interested in the process of putting on a show and many of their ideas have been incorporated into the performance. Below are a few photos of our rehearsal yesterday.
Last week, because all the costumes were ready, we had a photo shoot. The pupils really embraced the challenge of acting their character in the photos. The photos are displayed in the glass cabinet near the office and have proved a great talking point among staff, parents and pupils.
When you come to the Christmas shows, please take the time to have a look. They are absolutely super.
We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday for our performances.
Our topic this term has been India.
We’ve been learning about:
One of our activities was to “work” for 20 minutes making paper bags to sell to shopkeepers for their spices. Making 10 bags earned 1 rupee. It was sticky, messy and very hard work!
Once we had done the calculations, most groups managed to keep their family alive for one day… but only just. (See pictures below.)
Primary 7 are the proud owners of their new leavers hoodies. Thanks to LHD for printing.
There’s a few photos below that capture everyone in the class. It was hard to get everyone together for one photo.
They look great!
Yesterday, P7s from Scalloway, Hamnavoe, Whiteness, Tingwall and Nesting schools all came together in the Scalloway Games Hall to get to know each other a little before they move to the AHS.
Active Schools organised 4 activities which everyone got to try.
Our class had a great time and all managed to say hi to some new people.
Thank you to Active Schools for organising the day.
Primary 7 have had a busy two weeks building blackhouses from balsa wood.
Many skills have been worked on including measuring, building, listening, cooperating and evaluating. It’s been a very worthwhile task to fit in with our topic of “The Highland Clearances.” The class evaluation reports are worth reading and will be on show (along with the Blackhouses) on our Learning Walk on March 14.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Now that Term 3 is truly underway, snow or not, I’ve copied the Overview for P7s work this term.
Please click on the link above to see it.
A paper copy will be handed out next week as well.
Many thanks

Hi Primary 7
If you’ve had enough of playing in the snow, here are a few ideas to keep you busy. For ease of access, I’ve also put this message on our class Team. The homework grid can be found in the “Homework” section of our Class Notebook.
Hope you are all doing well.
