Primary 1 enjoyed taking part in the Children in Need fund raising activities in school that were organised by Primary 7.
They were also delighted to get a visit from Pudsey on Friday afternoon!
As a school, we raised £552.23, well done and thank you!
Last week was our first week using all the big gymnastics equipment. We loved it!
Please click on the link below to see what we are learning about in Primary 1 in Term 2:
We started the new term at PE, experiencing gymnastics for the first time. We found out that gymnastics is all about using our body to do skills. We learnt about the basic shapes, trying them in different positions. We then did some flexibility exercises, noticing that the shapes are used in many different stretches. We also performed jumps, trying the shapes in the air while learning the 5 ways we can take off and land and how to describe a jump.
2 feet – 2 feet
2 feet – 1 foot
1 foot – 1 foot the same
1 foot – the other foot and
1 foot – 2 feet.
Here we are stretching and jumping.
In PE, we have been using the small games apparatus including, small balls, large balls, hoops and bats.
Here we are with the hoops.
We have been using natural materials (sticks) to help us learn about maths.
We organised the sticks in our groups. We tried to sort them out from longest to shortest.
We used our sticks to make different shapes that we knew about. Here is a pentagon.
Making a triangle.
A triangle and a square.
More triangles and squares!
We had lots of fun using the sticks to learn about length and shape.
We love learning about new sounds in P1A. Here are some photos of us concentrating hard and having lots of fun learning our new sounds this week.
We love practising out letters with whiteboard pens.
It’s great fun writing in our sand trays. It feels good under our fingers!
We used all the sounds we know to make words using the letter pebbles.
We have been learning about shapes recently.
Our learners worked patiently and collaboratively on different shape challenges:
Find the Shape Treasure Hunt:
How high can you build the tower by adding one block at a time:
Build a wall that Humpty Dumpty can balance on:
There’s been lots happening in the P1 outdoor area recently!
Our learners showed curiosity and creativity when exploring the effects of friction. They observed how putting sand in the drain pipe slowed down the speed the cars slid down; adding more sand to make the car go slower and taking the sand away to make it go faster.
Out learners showed the skills of communication and collaboration when creating a home for a spider they found in one of the tyres in our outdoor area. They discussed what the spider would need to stay alive and be comfortable.
More creative skills were displayed with drawings and mark making and designing a “rainbow” plank.
And wonderful creative and innovative skills were on show during the creation of a pirate ship with our learners working collaboratively to add everything they needed to the ship including a wheel and small life raft.
