During term two were lucky to have a visit from nurses from the Gilbert Bain Hospital as part of Re START A Heart day – Monday 16th October.
Re START A Heart day helps to raise awareness of cardiac arrest and supports people to learn CPR, giving them the skills and confidence needed to save a life.
During their visit we got to practise giving CPR to dummies and got to use practise defibrillators, learning some key lifesaving skills.

In term one we were very lucky to have a visit from Eleanor Hutcheon who came in to do a STEM workshop with us as part of our Climate Change topic.
The morning was spent talking about the Braer disaster and how oil spills are cleaned up. Pupils were given a variety of materials to use to clean up an oil spill (oil and cocoa powder!). Some of the creations were more successful than others but all managed to clean up some of the oil.
The afternoon was spent looking at renewable energy and in particular wind turbines. Pupils were given the challenge to build a wind turbine using Lego and a generator. There were a lot of testing their models and amending accordingly. In the end, nearly all of the turbine were able to produce electricity when put next to a fan. The highest reading reached was 6.2 volts!
