Today we started our athletics block, focusing on running events. We spoke about different lengths of races requiring different techniques. We started with a 6 minute run, trying to pick a pace that we could maintain throughout the time. We then performed in sprinting games in small groups, where we had to use bigger arm and leg movements to be able to run faster.

P7’s have been doing handball in PE. It is a new activity to us, but we have a lot of skills already learnt we could bring to this game, like throwing and catching, spatial awareness, team work, cooperation, decision making, cue recognition, respect and many more.

Here we are playing games on the last day of the block.
In PE we did a 4 week block of skipping. The main focus was to develop our own ability. The first stage was to improve our basic skip. Next we could try some different jumps and steps like jumping jacks, hopping and more. We also added in partner skipping, where we tried to jump in time building up to holding each others rope. Finally we finished with long rope skipping in groups.
We started the term in PE doing fitness. We focused on a different component each week, covering flexibility, stamina, speed and strength. The lesson consisted of an explanation of the area of fitness and then exercises using and developing it.

We taught them the Grand Old Duke of York, a modified version of the Virginia Reel and we all learnt the Circassian Circle.
We had a few changes to the equipment this week. The wide box was a section higher, the narrow beam came after the wider benches and at the frame, the ropes were out. When discussing the equipment set up, we spoke about changes of height, direction and width.

We have been busy in the gym doing gymnastics. We started on the mats developing our floor skills, focusing mainly on rolls, handstands and cartwheels. We have had one week of the equipment, where we explored all the different stations.

Our first PE block was rugby. We spent time getting used to the shape of the ball, how to pass and having to pass backwards. We also played in small sided games learning the structure of this game.
