PE Update

Over the past few weeks, pupils have been developing a range of skills through our basketball activities. The focus has been on building the fundamental skills needed for success in the sport, including passing, dribbling and shooting.

Through a variety of engaging drills and challenges, the children have worked on improving their ball control, coordination and movement skills, developing confidence in handling the ball and making decisions during activities. We have also explored spatial awareness, encouraging pupils to find space, move effectively around others and work collaboratively with teammates.

As their skills have progressed, pupils have had the opportunity to apply them in small-sided activities and simple game situations, helping them understand when and how to use different techniques effectively.

Alongside their physical development, we have continued to focus on our Significant Aspect of Learning, Respect and Tolerance. Pupils have been encouraged to demonstrate these values by listening to others, working cooperatively, supporting classmates and showing positive attitudes during lessons. It has been pleasing to see the children increasingly putting these benchmarks into practice as they participate in activities.

It has been lovely to see the enthusiasm, effort and progress shown by everyone throughout the block, with pupils developing both their basketball skills and their ability to work positively with others. 🏀🌟

Project – Habitats

Our project this term has been habitats. We have been learning about living and non-living things, what a habitat is and basic food chains.

We loved going on a  Minibeast Hunt in the wildlife area and learnt lots about insects and their habitats.

Meta skills – curiosity, collaborating, communicating.

Art Lesson

In Art we have been spending the past few weeks mixing colours to create different textures, painting tigers and collaging together a picture of a tiger in the jungle which has been inspired by the work of artist Henri Rousseau.  We have been learning how to arrange shapes, colours and materials to create a composition. The final results are awesome, well done!

Maths Week Scotland: Maths Matters

For Maths Week Scotland 2026, we focused on Money Matters, with lots of different activities linked to money.

Maths Challenges – We really enjoyed taking part in the Sumdog Maths Week Contest. We were delighted to end the week as the top class in the school!

Sound School Shop – P4/5 and P5 set up the Sound School Shop in the open area, where we worked with budgets, calculated costs, and made decisions about what we could afford.

We created money challenge cards for the shop. These encouraged pupils to think about change, totals, and spending choices. We all loved playing in the shop.

Money Matters Board Game

Another exciting part of the week was designing and making a Money Matters board game. Pupils worked creatively to design and make a fun game with cards which included good and poor money choices. This activity combined maths with teamwork, design, and communication, allowing pupils to demonstrate both their understanding and creativity.

The finished games showed fantastic imagination, and it was lovely to see pupils so proud of their work and keen to play each other’s games.

Meta skills -collaborating, creativity, leading, sense making.

Hey You!

P3/4 have learned a new song called ‘Hey You!’ written by Joanna Mangona for the Charanga music scheme. The song is made up of two verses using two different voices – rapping and singing. In the videos below you can see the class performing the song with an instrumental section where they are playing xylophones and glockenspiels.

Our next step is to write our own melody for the instrumental section and this will be shared with you soon!

PE Update – Hockey

This term, we are focusing on invasion games, with hockey and basketball forming the main areas of learning. We began with a week of skills development to build the core attributes required for success in both sports. These included cooperation, dodging, weaving, attacking, defending, communication, and decision-making.

We then moved on to hockey. Throughout this block, pupils have been building their confidence in controlling the ball, passing accurately, and dribbling effectively. They have had regular opportunities to practise and refine these skills before applying them in fun, competitive games.
