Art Lesson

In Art we have been spending the past few weeks mixing colours to create different textures, painting tigers and collaging together a picture of a tiger in the jungle which has been inspired by the work of artist Henri Rousseau.  We have been learning how to arrange shapes, colours and materials to create a composition. The final results are awesome, well done!

Maths Week Scotland: Maths Matters

For Maths Week Scotland 2026, we focused on Money Matters, with lots of different activities linked to money.

Maths Challenges – We really enjoyed taking part in the Sumdog Maths Week Contest. We were delighted to end the week as the top class in the school!

Sound School Shop – P4/5 and P5 set up the Sound School Shop in the open area, where we worked with budgets, calculated costs, and made decisions about what we could afford.

We created money challenge cards for the shop. These encouraged pupils to think about change, totals, and spending choices. We all loved playing in the shop.

Money Matters Board Game

Another exciting part of the week was designing and making a Money Matters board game. Pupils worked creatively to design and make a fun game with cards which included good and poor money choices. This activity combined maths with teamwork, design, and communication, allowing pupils to demonstrate both their understanding and creativity.

The finished games showed fantastic imagination, and it was lovely to see pupils so proud of their work and keen to play each other’s games.

Meta skills -collaborating, creativity, leading, sense making.

Hey You!

P3/4 have learned a new song called ‘Hey You!’ written by Joanna Mangona for the Charanga music scheme. The song is made up of two verses using two different voices – rapping and singing. In the videos below you can see the class performing the song with an instrumental section where they are playing xylophones and glockenspiels.

Our next step is to write our own melody for the instrumental section and this will be shared with you soon!

PE Update – Hockey

This term, we are focusing on invasion games, with hockey and basketball forming the main areas of learning. We began with a week of skills development to build the core attributes required for success in both sports. These included cooperation, dodging, weaving, attacking, defending, communication, and decision-making.

We then moved on to hockey. Throughout this block, pupils have been building their confidence in controlling the ball, passing accurately, and dribbling effectively. They have had regular opportunities to practise and refine these skills before applying them in fun, competitive games.
