We recently learned a song all about fireworks and Bonfire Night. After we had learned the words and the melody, we also learned how to follow a graphic score. This showed us pictures of percussion instruments to play and when to play them. We worked in small groups to play our instruments and then we had the chance to move round different music stations. In the video you can hear us singing the song and playing four different pieces of percussion – boomwhackers, tambourines, maracas and claves.
PE Week 2 Gymnastics
Rolls, Handstands and Cartwheels

Term 2 PE – Gymnastics
This term, all pupils will be taking part in gymnastics, starting with mat skills and progressing to apparatus work. Gymnastics is a fantastic way for children to develop confidence, coordination, and strength while working at their own level.
Mat Skills Focus:
- Balances
- Jumps
- Rolls
- Handstands
- Cartwheels
Apparatus Focus:
- Pupils will explore different equipment setups
- They’ll be encouraged to create their own ways of moving from one side to the other
This approach supports creativity, problem-solving, and physical literacy.
Everybody loves this term in the gym, so I’m sure their will be plenty to talk about when they get home.
PE Reminder
Please ensure pupils:
- Come dressed appropriately on PE days
- Have appropriate footwear. Now that the weather is changing, footwear can be changed before PE.
- Have hair tied up
- Remove jewellery and watches before the session

The Blythswood Shoebox Appeal 2025
Blythswood Shoebox Appeal 2025 Leaflet
We are proudly supporting the Blythswood Shoebox Appeal – gathering small gifts to spread big smiles this Christmas.
Please read the leaflet or watch our video to see how to help us support people less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you 💕

We made lovely cards and messages to put into the boxes.

We filled our first box today!

Science! 💥
We created some experiments to help us understand our weather topic. First we found that the rain falls when the droplets grow heavy and drop down through the cloud to the ground.

Next we created a cloud in a jar using hot water and ice to show us how the water cycle works. We found that warm, moist air meets cold air and voila – a cloud forms in a jar!
We learned some very big words – evaporation, condensation and precipitation.

Then we learned that rainbows happen when sunlight bends through raindrops, splitting into colours like magic!

Next we found that light also bend when it enters water, making things look shifted, stretched or even disappear!

Now you see it!
Now you don’t! 🪄

Numeracy Week
Numeracy week was lots of fun!

Mrs Angus had a go at our challenge too!

Settling In :)
Our only rule is to be kind. P2/3B are really good at following our rule. We are very good at supporting each other every day! 😍

🏉 PE Update – Rugby Focus
Over the past three weeks, our PE lessons have centred around rugby skills, especially passing and moving with the ball. Pupils have been learning key rules of the game:
- Passes must go backwards.
- The team must stay behind the ball carrier.
To reinforce these skills, we’ve played a variety of fun and active games:
🎯 Canadian Goose
Everyone starts with a ball. On command, balls are placed down and one is removed. Players without a ball become robbers, trying to steal balls and pull flags from others.
🏃 Flag Fury
Players move freely, trying to collect flags from others and attach them to their own belts—only one flag per person before moving on.
🐻 Bears and Buffaloes
Pairs line up in the middle. On their team name being called, they run to score a try while the opposing team tries to pull their tags.
🚪 Great Escape
Attackers start in a central square and try to escape to the edge without losing their tag, while defenders attempt to stop them.
❄️ Rugby Freeze Tag
Catchers tag others using the ball. Tagged players freeze with hands up until freed by a high five.

PE Update – Football block
This year, all classes will be working on the same activity in PE, with each class developing skills at their own level. We started the year with a Football block, focusing on building confidence and ability in key skills.
In Primary 2/3, our objective was to develop dribbling and passing skills. The pupils worked hard throughout the block, gaining confidence and making great progress with their skills.
It has been wonderful to see the pupils settle in quickly and adapt to the new class structure so well. We look forward to continuing this positive start as we move into our next activity block!
Here we are doing a team work exercise. The group had to move around, but the middle person wasn’t allowed to touch the hoop.

Here we are practising our dribbling and passing.

Art Lesson
In Art P2/3b have been learning how art can show emotions, we looked at “The Scream” by Edvard Munch and used chalks to create our own emotional picture.
