Sports Day Update

We had a very successful Sports Day today, with lots of excellent performances and many happy children. Well done to all of the pupils for their enthusiasm and effort throughout the event!

Pupils will receive their results certificates on Wednesday, when I am back in school.

When comparing results from year to year, it is important to remember that a number of factors can influence performances. These include:

  • Weather conditions – today was a little blustery at times, which can affect some events.
  • The surface – this year we used a different surface. A track can often provide a faster and more consistent running surface than grass.
  • Equipment – some of the equipment used this year was slightly different, which may have given pupils a small advantage in some of the jumping events.
  • Recording of results – as with any event, slight variations in recording can occasionally affect scores.

Most importantly, the children had a fantastic day, showed great sportsmanship and thoroughly enjoyed taking part. Thank you for your support. 🏅😊

PE Term 4 Weeks 5-12

Weeks 5-8 Skipping

We started by developing our individual performance from a basic skip to trying  different actions with our feet like jumping jacks, ski’s, twists, etc.  We could also try moving the rope differently by doing cross overs and a double rope with one jump.  In our second week we introduced partner work, where we both still had our own ropes but tried to skip in time, and skipping on a bench.  We finished the block with group skipping using the longer ropes.

Week 9-12

This week sees the start of our last 4 week block of the term and the year, which is Rounders.  Here are the first two games we are doing.

– Circle and line – In 2 halves, 1 half stand in a circle and pass the ball around circle.  The other half stand in a corner and 1 at a time run around edge of gym.  See how many passes the circle team can make in the time it takes the other team to all have 1 shot each.

– Passing rounders – 2 teams, 1 fielding and the other batting.  The batters throw the ball out and run once round all the stumps.  The fielders score by throwing the ball as many times as they can before the batter gets home.  The team with the most throws wins.

Term 4 PE – Weeks 1-4

We began the term with a block of athletics. We took part in a variety of activities across three key areas: running, jumping and throwing. This gave us plenty of opportunities to learn, practise and improve the skills needed for our sports day events.

PE Term 3 Badminton

We finished Term 3 with a block of badminton, focusing on our hitting ability and team work.

Term 4 Overview

We are finishing the year off with three activities for four weeks each.

1 – Athletics with Determination and Resilience

2-Skipping with Stamina

3- Rounders with Cue Recognition.

Term 3 PE Update

This week we begin our third four‑week block of PE. So far this term, the class has enjoyed learning dance and handball, and we wanted to share what we’ve been working on.

Dance

In our dance block, pupils explored how to use movement to express ideas. We focused on:

  • Using imagination and responding to different stimuli
  • Travelling, stillness, shapes, jumps and gestures
  • Changing rhythm, speed, level and direction
  • Repeating patterns in movement
  • Showing expression and confidence

The children had great fun experimenting with creative movement and performing short sequences.

Handball

During handball, we concentrated on building throwing and catching skills and taking part in small‑sided games. Pupils learned some of the key rules of the sport:

  • Players have 3 seconds to pass or shoot
  • Players may take 3 steps only while holding the ball

We also practised moving into space to make successful passes and talked about how handball is a fast‑paced, exciting team game.

Here we are being Catherine Wheel fireworks.

Here are some pictures of our first week of handball.

PE Gymnastics – Week 5 Equipment

Exciting Equipment Updates For Week 5!

We made some changes to our PE setup to keep things fresh and fun for everyone. Here’s what’s new:

  • 4 Sections of the Solid Box – Perfect for balance and jumping activities.
  • Springboard at the Bar Box – Great for practicing vaults and take-offs.
  • Trampette – For safe, controlled jumps and landings.
  • Double Bar – Ideal for upper body strength and coordination.
  • High Ladder – Encourages climbing skills and confidence.

PE Week 4 Gymnastics Equipment

This Week’s Equipment Highlights

  • New Heights: One box was set higher, and another had a lower bench leading up to it, adding variety and challenge.
  • Ropes Added: The ropes were introduced this week and were a huge hit with the pupils!
  • Directional Changes: We included a mix of benches, beams, and tables with changes of direction to keep things interesting and engaging.

Term 2 PE – Gymnastics

This term, all pupils will be taking part in gymnastics, starting with mat skills and progressing to apparatus work. Gymnastics is a fantastic way for children to develop confidence, coordination, and strength while working at their own level.

Mat Skills Focus:

  • Balances
  • Jumps
  • Rolls
  • Handstands
  • Cartwheels

Apparatus Focus:

  • Pupils will explore different equipment setups
  • They’ll be encouraged to create their own ways of moving from one side to the other

This approach supports creativity, problem-solving, and physical literacy.

Everybody loves this term in the gym, so I’m sure their will be plenty to talk about when they get home.

PE Reminder

Please ensure pupils:

  • Come dressed appropriately on PE days
  • Have appropriate footwear.  Now that the weather is changing, footwear can be changed before PE.
  • Have hair tied up
  • Remove jewellery and watches before the session
