Rolls, Handstands, Cartwheels and Balances

We recently learned a song all about fireworks and Bonfire Night. After we had learned the words and the melody, we also learned how to follow a graphic score. This showed us pictures of percussion instruments to play and when to play them. We worked in small groups to play our instruments and then we had the chance to move round different music stations. In the video you can hear us singing the song and playing four different pieces of percussion – boomwhackers, tambourines, maracas and claves.
Thanks for the deep end test certificates and swimming medals that have been brought in to show the class. We have put up photos on our ‘Wow Wall’ which shows our wider achievements outwith school.
If anyone has any achievements they would like to share with the class then feel free to take them in.
Here is our curriculum information for this term.
This term, all pupils will be taking part in gymnastics, starting with mat skills and progressing to apparatus work. Gymnastics is a fantastic way for children to develop confidence, coordination, and strength while working at their own level.

We watched a video about the shoebox appeal.
Blythswood Shoebox Appeal 2025
We made posters and we are all very excited about getting items donated. We made a video too. We can’t wait to start putting the shoeboxes together.

We looked at shadows as part of our focus on sunlight in our weather topic. We went outside and used toy dinosaurs to make big and small shadows and we drew around them with chalk.
It wasn’t as easy as we thought it was going to be. The sun kept going behind the cloud so we had to be patient.
Light and shadows – KS2 Science curriculum – BBC Bitesize
As part of our weather topic we looked at different types of clouds and then got to go outside and try to name the clouds that we could see that day.

Shape Scavenger Hunt
This was a lot of fun! P2/3a couldn’t believe how many shapes we saw in the wild.

Bingo
We had lots of games of bingo and some pupils even got a chance to be the bingo caller.

Lego Challenge Cards
These were so simple but such a hit with the class.

We did loads of other numeracy related activities and thoroughly enjoyed our week. The pupils were delighted to play the games with parents too and do the Finn Finity scavenger hunt with them. Thank you to those who could make it along.
As part of our weather topic we have been looking at seasons. We made some tree art using tin foil, bingo dabbers and spray bottles of water. It was great fun!
