STEM Skills

As part of our Burn Trail Project P4-7 have begun thinking about the engineering and design problems we need to solve. We used those problem solving skills today by taking on two challenges:

  1. Build the tallest free standing tower. Using only one piece of A4 paper and scissors.
  2. Build the longest bridge which can support 8 multilink cubes. Using only one piece of A4 paper and scissors.

P4 – 7 took on the challenge and did really well! They worked together in pairs to come up with design solutions. They were able to learn and adapt their designs and make them taller / longer / stronger. Great work P4-7!

Soil is amazing!

As part of our Sustainability Topic P4 – 7 have been learning about soil – it is really amazing! Soil is one of the Earth’s most precious resources.

Did you know?

Soils are home to a quarter of the Earth’s species

95% of Earth’s food production relies on soil.

1g of soil has up to 10 billion organisms in it!

We did experiments to find out about the characteristics of different soils – it was very messy but very good fun!

Dig, Dig, Dig!

Primary 4 – 7 have started to tackle our outdoor area. Our raised beds have become very overgrown so we have begun the hard work of digging them out! We are planning to plant some tatties and other vegetables.

Our topic for this term is Sustainability. Making more use of our outside space and growing edible crops will form part of our learning. Time to get to work!
