As Head Teacher, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to Nesting Primary School – a school that serves the catchment area of North and South Nesting. Our school is situated in the central mainland on the east coast of Shetland. We are a proud community school that values nurture, inclusion and teamwork. Our staff and pupils proudly recognise and live by our schools’ values everyday and this makes for a happy and safe school for all who attend. How we work together and support each other is outlined in our class charter which references articles in the UNCRC – United Nations Convention for the Rights of the Child.
Our warm and caring ethos is interwoven with an ambitious and progressive approach with learning where every child is supported and challenged to be their best every school day.
When asked what the best things are about being a pupil at Nesting School, the following answers were shared by pupils:
- Spending time with and learning alongside my friends and cousins
- Working really hard to get all my tasks and questions done
- Being able to take play and learning outside
- Learning about Nesting and our local area – using different types of maps.
Our school opened in a new building in 2004 on a new site. We have extensive grounds with lots of trees and bushes. There is also a multicourt and playpark. All of these facilities are utilised for play and for learning. We hugely value opportunities to take learning outside.
The South Nesting Public Hall is next to our school.
Nesting is a beautiful area of Shetland with lots of wildlife and nice walks.
