On  29 May 2025 our P7 pupils took part in the Shetland Primary Schools Hockey Festival in Brae, proudly representing Mid Yell with fantastic enthusiasm and team spirit. Across eight matches, the team delivered a strong performance winning three, drawing two, and losing three showing great resilience and determination throughout.

There were some fantastic skills on display, with exciting attacking play and strong, committed defending from all involved. The pupils worked brilliantly as a team, supporting one another and showing real progress in both their individual and team play.

The day began with beautiful weather, but it wasn’t long before the skies opened and heavy rain poured down. Despite the wet and windy conditions, the players kept their spirits high and continued to give their all right to the final whistle.

A huge thank you to Active Schools for organising and hosting such a brilliant event. It was a great opportunity for pupils to develop their hockey skills, enjoy competitive sport, and connect with others. We’re already looking forward to taking part again next year!

On 15 May 2025 Mid Yell Secondary School, in partnership with Baltasound Junior High School, proudly took part in a thrilling secondary school football competition this week. The joint team played a total of eight closely contested matches, showcasing fantastic teamwork, determination, and spirit throughout.

The first six games were hard-fought, each ending in either a narrow loss or a draw. Despite these early results, the team remained focused and positive, gaining valuable experience and building momentum as the tournament progressed.

The final two games were crucial in determining the third, fourth, and fifth place positions. First up was the playoff for fourth and fifth place, a match against Brae High School that proved to be an absolute nail-biter. After a 1–1 draw in regular time, the game headed into extra time and eventually penalties. With incredible composure and teamwork, Mid Yell held their nerve and emerged victorious in the shootout, securing fourth place and a well-deserved celebration.

The third/fourth place match followed a similar pattern against Aith Junior High School which ended in another 1–1 draw that led to extra time and penalties. Despite a strong effort and another display of courage and skill, this time the result didn’t go our way. Nevertheless, finishing fourth out of a competitive field was a fantastic achievement.

The entire competition was played under beautiful weather conditions, which made for a great atmosphere and added to the enjoyment of the event.

A huge thank you goes to Active Schools for organizing such a well-run and enjoyable tournament. Their hard work and dedication provided a brilliant experience for all the pupils involved.

Well done to all the players from Mid Yell and Baltasound — you represented your schools with pride and passion!

On Thursday 15 May 2025  we went to a stem project in the Lerwick museum.  The competition was about climate change  and how we can be smart to reduce it.

During this day we presented our 3D models of our school and share our knowledge and understanding about climate change which we had altered to improve how eco-friendly our school is.

We also had time to do lots of different challenges, and we got to experience the kind of jobs people would do.  We got to drive a truck simulator, put on a Scottish Sea Farms outfit and make a rubber band powered car. We also got to make a screw and bolt helicopter.

One of our teams won a challenge.
