discover, explore, conserve, share

The John Muir Award is an internationally recognised scheme that encourages people to discover and explore a wild place, contribute to the conservation of the place and then share their experiences with others.  The Award is available at 3 levels: Discovery, Explorer & Conserver.

At AHS, S2 pupils work toward their John Muir Explorer Awards.  This involves 4 Outdoor Adventure days, linked class work and participation in the Voar Redd Up.  Our wild place is the whole of Shetland!  It is an integrated part of their broad general education.

In S3, pupils can opt to progress to their Conserver Award as an extra-curricular activity.

Our experiences with the John Muir Award will be posted here.  We hope you enjoy sharing in our adventures!
