Mrs Webb & Early Years Creation

The children in the setting drew and painted some designs that Mrs Webb took to make a pillow for us! We kept it a secret from Mrs Geddes and Santa gave it to her when he came to visit!

We are very grateful and it came out beautifully! Thank you so much Mrs Webb!

Busy Elves

We have been very busy elves in Early Years recently doing lots of Christmas things! 🙂

We have been baking Christmas goodies and decorating them.

We have been very busy writing letters to Santa and wrapping presents for everyone.

“I used stamps and wrapping paper with cellotape.”

We have been excited about our new Christmas stencils too!

“I have posted my letter in the post box for Santa.”

We have been decorating the Christmas tree in Early Years. We are very proud of the end result! Looks great! 🙂

We decorated some glass jars for the toddlers Christmas party to decorate the hall!

Christmas Lists

We have been very excited about what Santa might bring us!

We have been making our Christmas lists by cutting out things we have seen in catalogs.

“Santa is bringing me this. I know. It’s my favourite.”

“Cut cut cut, I want this big kitchen.”

“I love LOL dolls. I like cutting. I can do cutting.”

“Santie!”

“I have asked for this already. Santa is coming to see me soon.”

Baking and dens!

Eilidh is helping Mrs Geddes write this post about Thursday 15th November.

I was putting the flour in and sugar and mixing it. We get some blue in and it goes in the oven. We put some icing on and ate them today! (Friday)

They are the dens. We put blankets on the tables. We lied in them and did some songs in them. Twinkle Twinkle.

Running Off Some Energy with the Big Children

The dentists came out to visit us today for us to get our fluoride varnish on. It feels funny on our teeth but helps us to look after them and keeps them strong. We had to lie on a table over at the school to get it done!

After all that inside time we were needing to run off some energy and get some fresh air so we went outside. It was break time for all the big children at the school so they joined in and helped us with our games.

We did some listening games where we had to only run at the right time. Miss Handley had to shout out things like ‘if you have red hair’, ‘if you have a sister’, ‘if you have ten fingers’, or ‘if you have a tail’ then you can run. It was really funny and the big children helped us out lots.

This post was written (and photos chosen) with the help of Michael and Magnus G. Thank you boys!

Crafty Tuesday

Lots and lots of crafting today!

Masks…all very different and all looking fabulous:

James wanted to know how to make a pompom so Mrs Webb took in her pompom maker:

Miss Johnson helped Elsah make a washing line picture:

And we had a go at making out own stick men.

“Mine needs three eyes!”

“Look at this bit, that’s his clothes.”

A Whole Day Outside

It was such a brilliant day that we spent almost the whole day outside today. We took some toys out as well as some clip boards and paper to make marks, and had lots of fun with bubbles too. The recent rain had left lots of water for us to use the big syringes to sook up the water and ‘scoot it back out’! Let’s hope this weather stays good as we all feel so much better when we have had some fresh air.

Stick Man and More Mushrooms…

We have decided to do something a little different for planning this term and use a book to base a lot of activities around – it is a good way for us to go with what the children want to do and the book we have chosen is not only a good one for getting us outside and for spotting lots of rhymes, it has a bit of a surprise Christmas character in it – Stick Man by Julian Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. We have read the book quite a lot already and went out looking for our own Stick Men today – only sticks were found and brought back so no one needs to worry!

We are using texts and pictures as part of our exploration of nature too and used a poem about a mouse and an elf who uses a toadstool as an umbrella, as well as a famous painting called The Mushroom Gatherers to help enrich the learning. The huge variety of shapes, sizes and kinds of mushroom in our fungi books is causing a lot of interest. Brain shaped mushrooms, mushrooms which ‘bleed’ red juice when bruised or cut and giant round mushrooms (puffballs) that are bigger than footballs and that let off powdery stuff if you break them. The names have caused much hilarity too!

If anyone has extra ideas for our Stick Man project, or wants to join us for a nature walk, please let us know.

‘Muppet’ Shows, Tall Towers and Ideas for Snack

The bairns spotted a bag full of puppets that we had not played with in a while so we took the whole lot out and we were treated to a brilliant ‘muppet’ show. According to the discussion at the end of the day when we were filling on our floor book, the main theme was turtles and puppies, with a bit of peekaboo as well.

Here is a tall tower that Drew made. Eilidh and Chloe helped him finish it off and they used team work to lift it to a higher surface to make it even taller.

We always speak about what we would like for snack but this week James and Magnus decided to draw what they wanted instead:

We all have rumbly bellies thinking about snack for next week now!
