Hello
The blog has been quiet for a while – but we are back and (hopefully) we can begin to do frequent updates.
Watch this blog!
On 03/07/19 we had a graduation ceremony! The 2 people who are leaving are Aaron Painter (Me) and Jack Sumner! There were 3 videos and 2 power points. When we had done 1 of the power points and the 3 videos we did a mini graduation ceremony (Mr Thompson gave out some certificates to Me, Darcy and Jack and then gifts for the Anderson to me and Jack. ) After that we watched a load of Edinburgh Trip photo’s in a slide show! My favorite gift was a shirt he gave us that had somebody jumping into water. (Our school badge with a stick man on it.) -Aaron P7
My favorite item that I got was the alarm clock so that we can get to school on time.-Jack P7
It was a really good Graduation ceremony!
Today we held a soup and bannocks day at the school. We held it to get some of the community of Fetlar together to enjoy some soup and bannocks. Although it was a first time for making soup, we enjoyed it, a few of the things they made were scones, bannocks, and lentil soup. All of the guests enjoyed their food and at the end of the day we managed to raise £80.
Red Nose Day is a day when people go to school or work wearing a red nose. Red Nose Day was invented in 1985 by a group of people called Comic Relief to raise money to tackle the root of poverty and social injustice. To tackle the roots they raise around £1,000,000 by holding 2 events called Red Nose Day and Sport Relief.
We at Fetlar Primary School held our Red Nose Day on Monday 18th March. We started it by giving out sheets of paper to whoever came so they could answer the general knowledge quiz that was on it. After everyone had done the quiz we announced that the winner would get a special prize. Then a few people had their face painted by one of our students. We decided to paint faces and noses so we don’t use as much plastic. Whilst that was happening other people were having a go at the bean bag throw (which also had a special prize.)
After all of the fun happened we counted how much we raised and we managed to raise £32.00. We sent all of the money to Comic Relief and the £32.00 we raised was raised only by a few people! The prizes were a chocolate bar for the winner of the quiz and for the winner of the bean bag throw they won a chocolate bar also, second place won some sticky notes.
Yesterday was Holocaust Memorial Day around the world when we can think about others who suffered very badly because of prejudice. We found out about Anne Frank who was a young girl who went in to hiding because some bad people wanted to hurt her because she was Jewish.
We should remember so we don’t let things happen like this again. We found out that Anne had no rights of the child and this is why it’s good for us to have them.
Yesterday during the World’s Largest Lesson 2018 Fetlar Primary took part with 344,500 other pupils all around the world. They celebrated the theme of this years campaign Take action by making a video and a poster explaining how the Global Goals for Sustainable Development affect the island of Fetlar. They posted their work on the World’s Largest Lesson 2018 website https://worldslargestlesson.globalgoals.org/map/index.html
At Fetlar this week we explored what kind of behaviour a good or bad friend shows. We first talked about what we valued in a friend, what kind of qualities we felt they had to have. Then we worked across the year groups to explain what we felt ‘situation’ picture cards showed and Kaitlyn had to decide whether that scene showed someone helping or someone not helping a friend out. Kaitlyn got nearly all of them right! Well done you Kaitlyn and thanks to Imogen and Aaron for helping out with your ideas.
We went for our May beach clean on 16th May to Tresta beach on Fetlar and filled up 3 bags of rubbish. We had been in April and filled up 5 bags.
When we finished we met up with Martha from the RSPB and she gave us a scavenger hunt to complete with pictures of items (natural and man made) which we might find on the beach. We had to find the item and note the location to put on a map afterwards. When we brought everything back we discussed what each one was and the impact on the environment. Some was good (mainly natural) and some not so good (marine litter). We have been linking the impact of marine litter to Global Goal #14 Life Below the Water at school.
We have been putting our potatoes out now and watering them so they can grow. We’ve been very lucky with the weather as the heat has helped the flowers to bloom and the stems and leaves to sprout up even more! Photos to follow.
