As part of our efforts to attain Level 1 of the Rights Respecting School Award Scheme our pupils made a short video explaining Children’s Rights. We showed the video to parents and the wider community as part of our Christmas Play Premiere on December 19th 2014.
Rights Rap
The pupils have been following the Unicef Launchpad programme as part of our “Rights Respecting School’ lessons. We discovered a video that was about Children’s Rights made by Crosby High School and were inspired to make one of our own in under a week. We decided which 5 Rights we wanted to show, composed a backing track and recorded our voices. Ours looks more ‘home-made’ than the Crosby one but we like it.
WaterAid
Our P6 and one of his friends from Unst cycled across Fetlar this weekend from the “Welcome to Fetlar” sign at Hamars Ness to the viewpoint sign at the Banks of Funzie. It is a distance of 7.5 miles and they completed it in 2 hours exactly.
With sponsorship still to come in, it seems likely that they have raised over £250 pounds for the charity WaterAid. Well done boys; you really have taken the idea of people being empowered to help others to great lengths.
We’d also like to thank everyone who has sponsored the boys, donated to their cause and those people who came out to show their support!
Thank you.
