Dus Du Keen?

We were lucky to have a visit from Mrs De Luca on September 15th. She came to read us a new story written entirely in Shetland Dialect. She read us a few sections of the story (not the scariest bits) and gave us each a copy of the book.

Magnetic Games

The pupils were set a challenge to make a game demonstrating either magnetic attraction or repulsion. Here are some pictures of the resulting games being tested.

Everyone could explain the science behind their games and really concentrated when playing them.

We also had a game that our Nursery pupil tested out for one of our P3 children but that picture is refusing to load!

Electromagnets

Mr Rose has been telling us about the links between electricity and magnets. He brought an electromagnet to show us. It lifted all these paperclips. Our classroom magnets can only lift 7 paperclips if we are very careful!

We were able to make our own small battery powered electromagnets.

Mr Rose showed us many different uses for magnets. He brought one that ran on mains electricity that was able to lift seven of our kilogram (Kg) weights in one go.

Magnetic Discoveries

We have been studying Magnetic Forces in their many forms. Mr Rose, as always, has been helping us understand how magnets can be used.

P3 learned about how magnets can attract (not stick) to some metals.

Other pupils carried out experiments designed to show magnetic repulsion.

The older pupils discovered that Magnets have a north and south pole and have their own force field. We used iron filings to show this.

We hope to create our own games based on magnetic forces soon.

Ketchup with Fair Isle

It appears that a jar of ketchup has escaped from Voxter and has ended up in Fair Isle.

They must like it lots. It looks  like there is less sauce in the bottle now than there was!

Hmmmm!
