P1/2

The term is quickly coming to an end!  We’ve really enjoyed our growing topic and finally managed to get frogs in our tank which have now been released.  We had to be very patient!  We’ve been busy planting broad beans, caring for them and writing about different parts of plants.  We are looking forward to seeing lots of parents on Open Day and showing our families how much we’ve grown, changed and learned over this school year.

Sorry this has taken so long!  Finally the Man of the Match is on the Blog!  Well done.

Mrs Henderson and I are so proud of all the P1/2 pupils today!  They have worked so hard in the run up to their Assembly and they all spoke, acted and sang their little hearts out this morning!  Thank you to the following helpers… Mrs Casey, Miss Sandison, Mrs Inkster, John, Elizabeth Mitchell and to all the parents who have, once again, supported the children at home.  Thank you for coming this morning.  Can we do it all again? (11.5.16)

On Friday 29th April P1/2 helped to do another Voar Redd Up.  This time we walked from the school up to the Croft House Museum.  We were surprised at how much rubbish we collected in such a short distance!  P1/2 put in a super effort and felt glad that they had helped clear up around their local area.

Family and friends…please accept our invitation to see us perform in our “Growth and Change” Assembly!

Since the Easter holidays, P1/2 have started to study the topic, “Growth and Change.”  We have a few additions to our class to help us watch how some living things develop as they grow.  At the moment, we have tadpoles and caterpillars.  We are busy observing them each day and noting any interesting changes we see.  It’s all very exciting!

Another exciting day in P1/2 with a visit from the Easter Bunny and the SMUHA Jarl!!  Scott Lobban very kindly came into school to judge our wonderful galleys.  Not a job for the faint-hearted!!  In the end, he managed to pick three worthy winners but praised the efforts of every single pupil.  Enjoy looking through our gallery of galleys and happy Easter holidays everyone!

As the school Readathon comes to an end this week, we thought we’d like to share some photos with you and let you know how well the P1/2 pupils have done.  They have enjoyed reading from a wide variety of books at school and at home and have concentrated well reading alone, in pairs and to the class.  It’s been so encouraging to see how their reading skills are developing.  Good work P1/2 and thank you again for supporting them with this challenge at home.

Everyone reading in class!
Supporting and helping the younger pupils. Super team work!
Sharing a book with a friend is a great way to learn!
Concentrating on all the sounds to help her read with success!
Taking turns to read with a friend.
Making good choices.
In a world of their own!
Reading quietly and enjoying a good story!

There was great excitement on Friday 11th March – SMUHA day!  P1/2 have been preparing for this day by making torches and helmets and designing shields.  They have also been busy finding out about Viking times and making displays in their class and around the school.  Here are some of our photos from the day.
