P4-7 made a close drawing study of the coronation logo which incorporates the plants and flowers which represent the 4 nations Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales.
P4-7 have been drawing their own Tall Ship. Learning how to draw the main structure of the ship then going over the drawing adding in more detail. They have thought about the colour for the ship and how to draw the sea- using colouring pencils they have blended colours and used shading techniques to enhance their drawing.
The children have researched and selected one of the venue ports of Den Helder in Holland, Hartlepool in N England, Fredrichstad in Norway, Ardenal in Norway and Lerwick in Shetland -to make a drawing of a local landmark. After this they have worked in groups to make a European map of the race route.

P1/2 have been using junk to make Lighthouse. They have measured the circumference of the plastic bottle – then drawn and coloured their lighthouse. Added a light and added a plastic food tray to make a rocky island. They have used glue and tissue paper to make the grass, rocks and sea. I wonder what else they can make using the same ideas.
Looking closely the children have made an up close detailed study of a fragment of the 15th century painting entitled , The Hunters in the snow. The children have made the connection to the winter’s scene in Holland and the colour scheme of winter is similar to our own snowy winter. Fog and mist on a grey green landscape- dark rocks and snow lying all around. They have looked carefully to see what the people are doing as they try to keep warm using only found wood to make fires to warm themselves in a time with no electricity or oil heating. It must have been difficult to survive like modern day refugees.
Earlier in the year the children explored mark making using paint to dribble, drip ,mix, make colour experiments with watery and thickly applied paint using the theme of water to underpin their art. No rules just playing and investigating the use of paint. They also wrote the word ’Water,’ and incorporated it in to their artwork. Later the children used paper scoring- twilling techniques to make a waterfall – working in pairs.
P6/7 and P4/5/6 have been making studies of the painting called The Starry Night. The children drew the outline of the painting and added colours using oil pastels. They have captured the movement and expression of the artist’s work. They have been thinking about expressing their feelings using colours.
