Optional Snow Day Activities

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are all well on this lovely, snowy day!

Below are a few things that might give you some ideas on what you could do today. I have also included a link to a thing link for extra ideas, both indoors and outdoors.

As always, I would love to see any photos! 🙂

Take care and stay safe,
Miss Hunter

  1. Can you take a photo of a lovely winter scene? Consider whether the scene would look best landscape or portrait. Think about lighting and how to position your camera. Experiment with angles and close ups.
  2. Can you build a snowman/lady?
  3. Can you feed the birds? It can be hard for bird to find the food they eat (e.g. worms) in snowy conditions. Seeds, peanut butter and fruit are great for our feathered friends.

  1. A hot drink. Ask an adult for help! Can you, safely, learn how to make a hot drink (i.e. hot chocolate!)
  2. Can you make a snow angel? Ask an adult first. Wear warm clothes. Have dry clothes ready to put on afterwards.
  3. Sledging Challenge. If you have a sledge experiment with what makes your sledge go faster and slower (e.g the angle of the hill, sharing with a brother or sister). What did you discover?

Below is a link with lots of bonus activities, experiments and videos that you might like to have a go at. 🙂

Ms Henderson Visits P1/2

For our big question this week, we are looking at changing pitches. Ms Henderson came in to show us that if you tighten the string on a fiddle… the pitch goes higher and if you loosen the string… the pitch goes lower. Think we have a few bairns interested in fiddle playing after the visit. Thank you so much Ms Henderson.

Team Effort

Some of the bairns worked together to create this masterpiece. They each had a section but came together to make sure it linked together! Amazing!

Hip Hip Hooray for Lerwick Up Helly Aa

We had a super morning in Lerwick for Up Helly Aa. We loved watching the vikings going past and seeing the galley. We then went to the Museum for Book Bug and some snack. We then went on to make helmets, colour in a sheet and go on a mini treasure hunt! A special thanks to the parent helpers that came along on the day! THANK YOU!

Glasgow Science Centre visits Cunningsburgh

We were so lucky to have the Glasgow Science Centre visit the school! We looked at the digestive system and the staff were amazed by the knowledge of the class… as was I! They enjoyed the interactive inputs and then having a play with the different activities. Thank you to Megan and Aileen for the fun morning!

Suggested Snow Day Activities

Good morning on this lovely, snowy day.

I am sharing the suggested snow day activities from last time, if you are looking for things to do. I would suggest the number one activity would be to get outside and enjoy the snow!! 🙂 And send in the photos of the snow people, snow angels, sledging and whatever else you get up to.

Classifying Living Things

This week we are looking at why we need to classify living things… and as always, the bairns wanted to get stuck right in! So we have been looking at classification keys/flow charts and they have made excellent scientists!!
