PE Week 4 Gymnastics Equipment

This Week’s Equipment Highlights

  • New Heights: One box was set higher, and another had a lower bench leading up to it, adding variety and challenge.
  • Ropes Added: The ropes were introduced this week and were a huge hit with the pupils!
  • Directional Changes: We included a mix of benches, beams, and tables with changes of direction to keep things interesting and engaging.

Oreo and Fudge visit

Mrs Bannister had another surprise for us… we had Oreo and Fudge in for a visit. The bairns loved having them along and taking care of them for the day.

Moggy the Cat

We are doing Pets for our Play Project this week (along with construction) and Mrs Bannister kindly brought in her pet, Moggy. We loved having her along! A big thank you to Mrs Bannister and Moggy.

Class Band

There was a loud noise… and when I looked to see what was going on, I was met with grins and giggles. Some of the bairns decided to make a class band… they performed Jingle Bells to the audience. It was such a (loud) treat!

Term 2 Week 1 & 2 Gymnastics

This term, all pupils will be taking part in gymnastics, starting with mat skills and progressing to apparatus work. Gymnastics is a fantastic way for children to develop confidence, coordination, and strength while working at their own level.

Mat Skills Focus:

  • Balances
  • Jumps
  • Rolls
  • Handstands
  • Cartwheels

Apparatus Focus:

  • Pupils will explore different equipment setups
  • They’ll be encouraged to create their own ways of moving from one side to the other

This approach supports creativity, problem-solving, and physical literacy.

Everybody loves this term in the gym, so I’m sure their will be plenty to talk about when they get home.

PE Reminder

Please ensure pupils:

  • Come dressed appropriately on PE days
  • Have appropriate footwear.  Now that the weather is changing, footwear can be changed before PE.
  • Have hair tied up
  • Remove jewellery and watches before the session

Week 1 and 2 Mat Skills

Week 1 – Shapes and Jumps

Week 2 – Balances, Rolls and Bunny hops

Royal Botanic Visit

The bairns had a lovely morning from a visit from the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh. The bairns listened so well and joined in with a variety of different activities.

Primary 1/2 PE Update – Rugby Skills and Movement

Over the last three weeks of term 1, our PE lessons have focused on developing rugby-related skills through fun and active learning. The children have been working on changing direction, using space safely, and improving their spatial awareness through dodging and weaving activities. We’ve also introduced simple games that begin to explore attacking and defending, helping pupils understand strategy. Alongside rugby skills, we’ve used a variety of equipment to build coordination and boost confidence. The class continues to settle in well and it’s been fantastic to see their skills and enthusiasm grow each week!

Polytunnel Visit

We had a super afternoon at the polytunnel where we did some digging, planting, gathering eggs and feeding the goats.

Cold, Flu, Achoo! – Sean Thuis Visit

We were delighted to welcome Sean Thuis (Esme’s dad) back again for another action-packed, fun session… he did not disappoint! The bairns loved the session on germs and were treated to a fun powerpoint, looking at salt in the microscope (to help show us how small germs actually are) as well as doing a germ game outside! Thanks to Sean for taking the time to come in and share this with us all. We loved it.
