World of Work

On the 12/09/18 we started working with Emma Chittick from world of work. She was teaching us about driverless cars and our skills for when we are older. It was P5 P6 P7 that were doing the work with Emma. We all really enjoyed having Emma come teach us about driverless cars.

Nick Sharratt Visit

A few weeks ago we went to Baltasound Junior High School to see the author Nick Sharratt. When we got there we went into the classrooms our age groups were and did different things in there. When we went in the room and we sat down. First he told us how to draw Tracy Beaker from the stories he wrote. He also drew a illustration of our teachers. They chose which clothes the wanted to wear then he drew them wearing it and showed it to everybody. He also read us the new Pants book he wrote and that was really funny.

Wallace And Gromit

On Friday the 31st August we went to Mareel to see Wallace and Gromit The Curse of the Were Rabbit. I learned the sculptures were small so they can fit in the shot and the rabbits would have been tiny, They were 15cm tall . I learned that they had to be 12 Wallace mouths for every scene. I learned that most of the props were made from Plasticine. I learned that it takes a year and a half to make a animation. I learned that they have to be a metal skeleton so the arms don’t fall off the puppet. I really enjoyed the experience and also enjoyed seeing Nick Park.

Dynamic Earth

On 31/8/18 2 people from Dynamic Earth came to Mid Yell School to talk about the earth and how it is getting polluted. Dr. Craig got a sample of (not real) sea water and sea what we could find in there there were plastic straws a plastic bag and some fish the fish were alright, but the other things weren’t. He also had a big plastic transparent tent which was the shape of an oblong  with bits in it it was representing all of the things polluting the atmosphere. It was really fun and exciting.

Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of The Were-Rabbit

Film Making

I learnt that every day an average time would be four seconds of the movie! Wallace and Gromit are made of plasticine and they have a metal structures or wires inside them.

Copyright & Trademarks

I learnt that trademarks are logos except they have copyright on them so you can’t use it and say its yours so we made cookie packets and made our own logos on them.

The Film, Q&A with Nick Park

I think I’ve watched that film before but I could hardly remember what it was about since the last time I’ve watched it. Nick Park’s favourite film out of the Wallace and Gromit films was The Wrong Trousers. I still put my hand up but I didn’t get to ask a question. I also learnt that it took 7 years to make the movie!

Wallace and Gromit

On Friday the 31/08/18 we went to Mareel to watch Wallace and Gromit the curse of the where rabbit. We all really enjoyed the film we thought it was funny. After we watched the film we got to ask Nick Park our questions. After the film we were looking at the credits and there was so many people that were in and making Wallace and Gromit. We got to see the real Wallace and Gromit they were way smaller than we expected. We learned that it is really important to have Trade Marks at the end of your film because then your film will not be copied. We practised drawing Wallace and Gromit in our sketch books. We really enjoyed Wallace and Gromit the Curse of the Were Rabbit.

Year of Young People 2018/School Building Birthday and Mini Olympics

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Burravoe School’s most recent building is 50 years old this year. (The original building is on a different site and was built in 1872.) This year is also the Year of Young People when young people are encouraged to do something in their community; for their community event Burravoe pupils  planned an evening of fun to celebrate the school’s birthday. They decided to hold a Mini Olympics and worked hard to plan events so that everyone could join in. The Parent Council provided some great food for everyone to have after the activities.  We had meant to hold the event at school but it was so cold and wet that we had to do everything indoors at The Hall – nobody minded though and everyone had a great evening! Thank you to everyone who came.

Trowie Doors for Aa Trow Yell

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This summer there is to be a festival in Yell called Aa Trow Yell. The organisers are keen to encourage walking so they have planned some walks where people can look for Trows.

They organised a competition for school pupils to paint some Trow doors that people can look for on their walks. Some of us entered the competition. We were delighted that Alice won first prize in her age category and that Andrew, Lily and Abby were highly commended.
