PE update

Over the last three weeks, our pupils have been enjoying a block of basketball lessons as we round off the term.

During these lessons, we have been developing agility and manipulative skills, helping the children improve their movement, coordination and confidence when working with equipment.

The children have continued to take part in a variety of activities focused on spatial awareness, learning how to move safely and effectively within a playing area while being aware of others around them. They have also been developing important ball skills, including controlling, passing and moving with a ball.

Through simple games and challenges, pupils have begun exploring the basic concepts of attacking and defending. These activities have encouraged them to make decisions, work with others and apply their developing skills in fun and engaging situations.

Alongside their physical learning, we have been focusing on our Significant Aspect of Learning, Respect and Tolerance. Pupils are beginning to implement these benchmarks by being encouraged to share equipment, take turns, encourage their classmates and show kindness and understanding towards others during activities.

Stone Soup

Our first jolly phonics sound in group 1 was ‘s’.  We read the story, learned the sound and action.  Then we made Stone Soup based on the European folktale (thanks to Tesco Free Fruit and Veg at Bell’s Brae Primary).

‘Bring what you’ve got, put in in the pot. We are making stone soup. Do you care?  Can you share?’

PE Update – Hockey

In PE, Primary 1 have been developing their fundamental movement skills with a focus on invasion games. The children have been practising running, stopping safely, changing direction, following a partner’s lead, and improving their coordination. As part of this week’s learning, they completed an agility circuit, demonstrating increasing confidence, balance, and control while moving in different ways.
