Buddy Gym

This week we joined our buddies in their gym lesson.  This was the start of their rackets activities block.  We helped them by feeding the ball for them to stop the ball and hit it back.   We also had a shot of the bats, with our buddies feeding to us.

Numeracy – Measurement Activity

As part of our work on measurement this term, we headed outdoors to estimate and measure the capacity of various objects.  We used our collaborative, communication, curiosity, sense-making and critical thinking meta skills.

World War 2 Playground Games

As part of our topic this term, we’ve been exploring some of the games children might have played during WW2.  These include, hopscotch, marbles, five stones, skipping, dominoes and four squares.  We used our collaborative and communication meta skills.

STEM Success!

Well done to our P6/P7 STEM club who are 2024 YESC Regional Club of the Year runners up and 2024 STEM challenge winners!

We have started the term doing athletics.  We have done running, throwing and jumping events.  The class are very good at distance running, showing great effort and good pacing skills.  Here we are practicing hurdling.

Ukulele Open String Jam

This term we have started of our learning journey in music by finding out about the history of the ukulele and how it compares and differs to other stringed instruments. We have learned how to hold the instrument in the best playing position, the string names and also different ways of playing the strings – plucking and strumming. We have learned about the musical staff and how to read music notation and in the video clip below, you can see us playing along with a piece called ‘Open String Jam’.

We have also been composing for ukulele and the photo below shows our class composition using music notation. Our next steps will be to learn to play our composition with an accompanying backing track. We will then be moving on to learn about improvising using the open strings and working on our finger positions to change the pitch of the note.

Some of the Primary 7 pupils chose to attend the STEM event (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) at Scalloway this week.  They had a very busy day participating in various workshops including engineering, drones, app design and circuits.

Art lesson

In Art p7 have been learning about Andy Warhol and popular culture.

Having been inspired by his portraits, we drew a cartoon version of ourselves then transferred it on to a polystyrene block.

We had to cut up the block into 5 parts so we could print each bit a different colour.  Using the printing inks we printed each of the 5 pieces to create these colourful portraits.  Most of the class managed to to print 2, trying out different colour combinations.

Great work from p7 as this project was technical and quite tricky!
