In S1 attend CDT for 2 periods each week. One period is spent on practical craft, the other spent on drawing/technology.
Practical Craft
- Woodwork Unit 1 (Boat )
Introduction to wood working tools and process such as sawing, planing and chiselling. The importance of safety in the workshop and when using machines is Stressed to the pupils. - Metalwork Unit 1 (Key Tab)
Introduction to metal working tools and process such as filing, marking out and drilling. - Woodwork Unit 2 (Pencil Case)
A more complex product where parts are shaped to fit and glued together. - Plastic Unit 1 (Fridge Magnet)
Introduction to the shaping and finishing of plastic by the making of a fridge magnet pupils also have to design the shape they are going to make.
Drawing/Technology
- Drawing Unit 1
Introduction to technical drawing using instruments. Pupils produce 2D drawings using correct drawing techniques. - Sketching Unit 1
Pupils progress from sketching straight lines and rectangles to 2D objects. CAD Unit 1 By drawing 2D objects pupils are introduced to AutoCAD - Technology Unit 1
Basic Mechanical and Electrical systems are studied using both kits and computer simulation. - Sketching Unit 2

Using square paper pupils are introduced to Orthographic drawing. Some of the work may be done on computers
