This course is designed for learners who enjoy numeracy-based learning opportunities, who pay attention to detail and who like to apply logical and analytical thinking. N5 Accounts is currently only an option for senior phase pupils. There is no N4 course.
There are 2 main components in this course:
- Question paper (130 marks) 2 hours
- Assignment (50 marks) 2 hours
The assignment represents 28% of the overall marks for the course. Candidates work through a series of tasks to prepare accounting information and financial statements, drawing on the skills, knowledge and understanding from the course, from either one topic or a combination of 2 or 3. This is completed and sent to SQA in March.
Aims of the Course
- Pupils will develop an awareness of the function that accounting performs in industry and society.
- They will prepare, present, interpret and analyse accounting information
- Pupils will apply a systematic approach to solving financial problems, by using the relevant accounting concepts and techniques
- Pupils will apply information technology in accounting-related tasks
Homework Policy
The homework is built in as part of the course structure. A formal record is kept of all homework set. Pupils also have regular end of unit tests they must revise for.
