Shetland County Sports

On the 10th of June was County Sports in the Clickamin which is a sports centre in Lerwick, the whole of the P7s in Shetland were going. Me and mum had to get to  Ulsta ferry terminal and where we got on the bus with all the other P7s from Cullivoe and Mid Yell, they would all be in my secondary class when I go to Mid Yell after the summer. Anyway we got on the bus, I sat at the back next to Ashley; we got on the ferry we went upstairs and got changed. We arrived at Toft 20 minutes after, I got told that I will be competing in 3 activities; 100m sprint, 200m sprint and long jump.  We arrived at the Clickamin and it was raining heavily, First up was the 800m sprint, which was 2 laps around the running track. The P7s who were running cheered for the people who were running, Afterwards was the 100m, which was only a quarter of the race track, I came second unfortunately my time was too slow so I didn’t get in to the finale. Next was the sack race I went with the P7s who weren’t in the sack race and cheered them on. Then we split up the boys went to high jump and Me, Lizzie and Christina stayed any did the long jump. I got 1.9 m, We went inside as it started to rain, we all had sand in our shoes because when we jumped in the sand when doing the long jump. We went inside and watched the boys and girls doing the high jump, Lizzie won bronze medal in the high jump. Afterwards it was the 200 metres, it was raining soooo heavily we went in a tent thing to keep dry but ending coming out and cheering the boys on, next was the girls, I sprinted as fast as I could and came second, this time I was quick enough to get into the finals, I came 4th but I nearly came 3rd but it was too close to call. I ended being 4th, I was shattered I gave everything. We had to make a sharp exit to catch the ferry back to Yell, Everyone was soaking but it was still a brilliant time! 🙂

Baton

A bit back I made a baton for the Triathlon. I watch a video of the people make the baton It looked very complicated whit all the wires, electronics and the pass word. But it was very interesting watch them make the queens baton. There inspiration was an Glasgow bridge and other Landmarks in Glasgow. My baton is brown I learned it is ester to tape masking tape on the pipe before painting it. My inspiration was boats and fish and the Shetland flag. I think my baton looked very nice.

Game On Scotland Challenge

On the 2nd of June, we did a Burravoe School triathlon. We had to do a lot of planning. We did everything ourselves. The sports are: an obstacle race, racing like a pony and cycling. We were doing it for a plaque. We went into groups for the obstacles and we would use most of them but my groups obstacle idea didn’t be put forward. We used Bradley’s group idea and Charlotte’s groups idea. I have developed my group skills and my hosting skills. I have learned to make sure before the event starts you need to check that you have all the equipment out and make sure everyone knew what they were doing next. We had to do a lot of brainstorming , we all put our ideas together and then we got a really good idea. We needed to decide for the snacks because it needed to have something we could make because for instance we couldn’t have tea an coffee because we can’t make it because it is too hot so we made juice and biscuits and I would do that again if we had another one. If I could change anything about the triathlon it would be that my obstacle race would be included. The cycling went well. Some of the younger pupils brought in their scooters instead of their bikes which worked well too. I think it would of worked a little bit better if the cones were put farther in to the middle because when it was my go I couldn’t really overtake Kerry unless I went on the inside of the cone and that would be cheating. I really enjoyed the racing like a pony because the ponies looked funny because some of the P1-3s made  pony heads and put them on metre sticks. We had different groups for the racing like a pony.

Netball & Football Tournament

On Thursday 22nd of May P6 and P7 went to a Netball & Football Tournament; First we got a lift to Mid Yell so we could meet the bus to get to Unst. We waited around 20 minutes, we next went on a big bus to Gutcher, we met people from Cullivoe who were coming on the trip with us, they came up with a chant which we sung on the bus. When we got to the leisure centre we were playing at, it was around lunch time so we went over to Baltasound School, we had fish and chips.

After lunch we got to the leisure centre  and got to have a lesson of how to play netball with Suzy and Emma (who are players from Unst.) We were split into group blues and reds, then we played a game where we had to pass a netball round in a circle to the blue group (as we were in the blue group), the red group had another ball and then when the two balls were going  around if one of the groups ball overtake another groups ball the team who ball had been over taken was out, it was a really fun game. We also worked on our passing, and shooting; when doing our shooting Suzy and Emma split us into groups and then we had to get up to 5 shoots in a basket, Our team won, I scored 2 goals.

Afterwards we got to play a game of netball, our team won in the end, but the other team put up a good fight; The footballers also won their games they played, on the bus back to Mid Yell there was a buzzing atmospheric.
