On Saturday the 10/06/17, it was the Burravoe carnival. our theme was a, tv programme called I’m a Celebrity get me out of Here, all we had to do was dress up as a celebrity, or a animal. I dressed up as Adele, this time my brother, went on our float as well, my brother was dressed up as Tavish Scott. Whenever there were lots of people, we had to throw gummy worms, and shout I’m a Celebrity get me out of Here. We also got to, eat some of the sweets, but we also needed to pretend that the, gummy worms were real worms, so we needed to make a disgusted face, when we ate them. We won second prize. We decided to give the £50 to the charities that Elsie chose.

We got asked to make the signs for carnival floats to show who won for the best looking float. We are also making a walking one to see who is the best dressed young person to walk all the way from the Burravoe Hall to Brough.

This morning we planted onions. we work out how many is in each row there was six in each row. There was about 100 in the packet of onions. We also did earthing up the tatties. It means putting the soil over the tattie leafs from showing out of the soil. One way to do it is to to cover it up with the soil around the tattie or you can get some more soil and put it on the tattie.

We have had 6 hen eggs in our incubator for nearly 21 one days; we thought we had timed it so they would hatch after our long weekend but 2 have decided to come early!
This is the second chick starting to pip.
This is the second chick hatching – he gets tired very quickly. It’s hard to get good pictures because of the reflection from the incubator!
Even though it’s a holiday not everyone has missed the first chicks!

Yesterday we went to the beach and the old Haa, first we went to the beach and we found some sea Snails. I found some shiny Rocks. In the sea I saw a seal and it was quite far away. There was also Three Rock pools, and in one there was a thing that looked like a worm but we didn’t know what it was. After that we went to the old Haa and there was really good paintings and I thought that they used water colours. My favourite picture looked really nice and she used bits of china from the beach for the clothes on the washing line.

Yesterday we got 6 fertile chicken eggs. We put the eggs in a tray 3 on each side on one side we put water on the tray and the other side we didn’t. Before we did anything we had to wait for the incubator to heat up to around 34-35 degrees. Then we put the eggs in the incubator now we have to wait 3 weeks for them to hatch.

We went on the the Swan and thing we had to do first is go under and speak about safety. The thing I liked the most was putting the sail up and my other favourite was the hot chocolate! We also learned to tie knots, I learned the reef knot. We also had to put on our life jackets.

Today we went to the Burravoe Marina to go on the Swan and my favourite part was when Maggie taught us how to tie some useful knots on big boats and little boats. We got hot chocolate and we pulled up a sail and before we started we went below decks to learn the safety things and we got our lifejacket on, saw the toilet and the emergency exit and got on decks again.

Today we went on the Swan. First we went below decks to go and see the toilets why the other three got there live jackets on. Then we went sailing .We learned how to tie knots with Maggie. We started at the Burravoe Marina and went all the way until we could see Mossbank. We had to pull the rope to get the sail up. We also got hot chocolate on the way back to the pier. My favourite thing was probably make the knots because they were really useful if you wanted to become a sailor. Thank you for having us on the Swan we really enjoyed it.

Yesterday 2 women from the Glasgow Science Center came to our school. Fetlar School also came for the experience. In the morning P1-3 had their session with them and in the afternoon P4-7 had theirs. Our session was a bit different to the little session. Our session was called disgusting digestion. We learned about the different stages of digestion. The first stage is your mouth then your oesophagus then your stomach and last it went through your intestines. After the older ones session the little ones and grown ups came and we had a session with little workshops. Some of the workshops where body puzzles, memory games and there was one that showed you what you might look like in ten years time. It also showed you what you would look like if you were drinking and it also showed you what you looked like if you smoked, if you smoked then you looked really wrinkly. One of the workshops was to real LUNGS, but they weren’t human lungs they were pigs lungs but pigs organs and human organs are very similar. There was a healthy pigs lung and an unhealthy pigs lung (they had treated it to make it look like the pig had smoked) you could pump up the lungs to see how well they would be able to breath. For the healthy lung it was easy but for the unhealthy lung it was harder. but I think one of my favourite workshops was the thermal camera it showed you how warm you were and how cold you were.

On the 26th of April the Glasgow Science Centre came before lunch time and after that they borrowed the P 1, 2 and 3s. They learned about body parts, and we learned about Disgusting Digestion. We started off with the One Minute Challenge where you need to eat 2 Cream Crackers in one minute with no water, ( 2 played, one was me), to show how important saliva is. Then they showed us how the food was pushed down by muscles down the oesophagus into the stomach with a ball and a round net, and at the end we got showed a poo chart and Mrs. Hay was chosen to be a poo catcher and we pretended that we were pushing a broken bus and then we made an imaginary poo! Mrs Hay as the poo catcher caught the imaginary poo. After our lesson was finished the younger ones came in and we got showed what type of things they had at the Glasgow Science Centre there were x-ray pictures, memory test, organ puzzle, brain puzzle, scanned sections of the body from above, a machine that tells you how you might look in 10 years time if you smoke or drink ( look at picture), pig’s lungs that you fill up with air a healthy pig’s lungs and pig’s lungs that scientists have made to look like a smoking human’s lungs, a board that you listen to make you hear a person with asthma a person who smokes and a healthy person, a skin magnifier, a memory test , a multi task box and a thermal imager.
