Trip to Edinburgh

Some of the older children and Ms Breyley are visiting Edinburgh to attend a Scottish Parliamentary Reception to celebrate the work of the Crofting Connections Project. It has been quite an adventure already! We boarded the Northlink ferry in Lerwick at 6pm to come south to Aberdeen but because the weather was not too good the boat didn’t leave until midnight. By that time we were all tucked up in our bunks asleep. The crossing wasn’t too bad but our late start meant we didn’t dock in Aberdeen until 2.30pm. We then caught a train at Aberdeen and arrived in Edinburgh at 6.30pm. Most of us had never been on a train before; it was a shame that, as we were later leaving than we had planned, most of the journey was in the dark. The Crofting Connections team had organised a minibus for us so we got a lift from Waverley Station to the Youth Hostel where we are staying with lots of other pupils from Crofting Connections Schools. This evening most of the Shetland pupils have been out together to have dinner in an Italian restaurant – another first for some of us. Tomorrow morning we are all going to visit the Scottish Parliament for a tour.
