n is for nest

This week P1 were learning the n sound as in nest.
We examined a nest that had been abandoned and then made our own nests.

We collected the things we needed, we thought about the materials that would make the nest soft inside and strong on the outside.

Squirrel 🐿

Primary 1 shared the story of Percy the Park Keeper and the Lost Acorns. We talked about the characters the WHO, the setting the WHERE and what happened in the story the WHAT. We drew Squirrel and retold the story together.

Exploring our feelings

This week we were talking about feeling sad, we thought about the things that made us sad and what we could do if we ever had those feelings such as talking to our grown ups, our friends, cuddling our teddy, doing something that makes us happy. We used our plasticine to make to make sad faces, we had to work our fingers to soften the plasticine, we did this by squashing, squeezing and rolling.

Soft starts in P1

We’ve had another lovely week in P1. We have a ‘soft start’ each morning to ease the children into the day.  This week we‘ve been focusing on our fine motor skills with painting, building with loose parts, writing with buttons and eating pom-poms with our tennis ball monsters!

In literacy we’ve learned two more sounds – i and p. The children are doing a great job remembering the sounds and the actions. Please keep practising these at home.

We’re also doing lots of activities with plasticine and playdoh to strengthen our fingers. We’re concentrating on faces in our pictures, remembering all of the different parts of the face.

In numeracy we’re continuing with our number formation and ordering number lines. We’ve started to use the language of before, after and in between.

In our outdoor learning we’re learning about the different parts of a tree. We went outside and did some bark rubbing. It was fascinating to see the patterns on the different trees!

We also read The Leaf Man and the Stick Man and then made our own characters from natural materials we found in the outdoor classroom. Back inside  we did a fantastic job making our characters and sharing our leaves and sticks if somebody didn’t have enough for their picture.

Here are a few photos from our week:

Activity Time

This week we are using our story stones and loose parts to make up our own Percy the Park Keeper stories.

We used clothes pegs to make things, some of us decided to make aliens, people and crocodiles 🐊.

i is for Inky Mouse 🐭

On Monday we were learning the i sound as in ink, igloo and insect. Inky mouse left a trail of inky footprints all over the classroom. We made our own Inky to help us learn our new sound and read the story of Mr Impossible.

Cleaning up the inky footprints!
