Oi Frog!

P1a have been continuing to learn their double sounds. Over the last three weeks we have been focussing on oi, ng and ar! We spend time word building with our new sound and identifying the sound in different words. We continue to share stories and do different art activities around each sound for example we had great fun with Oi Frog!

Money Maths

P1 have been learning about money in maths. We have been looking at the different coins and talking about their value, shape, colour and size. We have been using the coins to make different amounts within 20p. We have made shopping lists and played at shops.

A Royal Drawalong with Nick Sharratt

This morning, to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Primary  1 took part in a royal drawalong with Nick Sharratt, one of our favourite authors. P1a did the online lesson in the library, it was great fun! Nick read us sections from his book The Cat and the King, then he taught us how to draw some of the characters from the book. We drew a cat, a king, an angry dragon and a unicorn.

Worm Friday in P1a

On Friday we spent the day learning  about worms. We began by making up questions about the things we wanted to learn eg What do they eat? What dangers do they face? Why are they so important in the garden? How do they help with composting? We shared some fact sheets together and a book called Yucky Worms by Vivian French. Outside we went on a worm hunt, looking for places where worms might be. After our worm hunt we examined worms using our magnifying glasses, looking closely at the different parts of their bodies.

Mouse 🐁 House 🏠

Last week we were learning the ou sound as in sound, out and cloud. We shared the story of Mouse House by John Burningham and an ORT story about Floppy called Ouch! We talked about rhyming ou words, we drew, painted and made mice and houses. We used our work to help us write a description of   a mouse house!

The er sound as in tiger 🐅

Primary 1 are continuing to learn about double sounds.

This week we were focusing on er. To help us remember our new sound we shared the story of the Tiger Who Came to Tea. We looked for er words in the story, drew and made our own tigers and used our sound knowledge to help us write about a tiger.
